If you would like to try out a new Square Enix RPG prior to its release, now is your perfect chance. The company has just released a demo for Oninaki on the Switch eShop in Japan, Australia and Europe, and it is expected to go live in North America very soon as well.
Here's a bit more about what you can expect, courtesy of Gematsu:
The Oninaki demo includes a “Story Mode” that lets you experience the opening part of an epic tale about life, death and reincarnation, and “Battle Mode” where you can enjoy thrilling combat using an upgraded character possessed by four daemons that perform different job roles. You can also carry your progress from Story Mode over to the full game.
As noted, you'll be able to transfer your progress across to the final game, which will require a total of 2.7GB of free space on your system. Lastly is a new trailer:
Will you be trying out this game ahead of its release next month? Leave a comment below.

Yes I really liked what I saw about this game— art style and all. Looking forward to trying the demo in NA!
Eshop currently under maintenance...
@GetShulked yup, just found this out now as well... Should be back up in about 3 hours
Is it a riverdance simulator?
fantastic this is on my list and is perfect for a demo! wish more of these more obscure releases would do this
Thanks Nintendo life, demo will be downloaded tonight!
ill check this one out
i had been worried because i didn't see it for preorder in the eshop when i checked in the last few weeks, so a demo is good news. i am really looking forward to this game!
Nintendo UK site doesn't recognise the name of the game if you search for it.
This game looks really good, excited to try it out.
This looks very good
@Bunkerneath yeah i cant find it either on the uk store
I liked the previous releases but this one doesnt really appeal to me. but having a demo is great as I can at least give it a spin without any commitment
The music reminds me of Fairy Tale!
I'm pretty sure this is download only, and with the onslaught of quality games to get from here to October plus my backlog I think I'll ignore it for the meantime.
@BrUniverse @MrGawain - The physical release will be Japan only.
@Magician I'd be interested in a physical release. Do you know if the Japanese version has an English translation.
What's the point in releasing everywhere but North America e-shop?
I really appreciate these types of demos. I hated the dragon quest builders 2 demo but it at least got me through the tutorial and I didn't have to do it later thank goodness! Looking forward to this game!
@Nomad @BrUniverse the japanese eShop page lists japanese, english, french and german. (Wow, I didn't knew it comes with german, too!)
Any idea how long the demo goes for?
Y'know, I really wanted to play the previous two Tokyo RPG Factory games on Switch, but between other games vying for my time, me not really getting into the Lost Sphear demo, and the games feeling too typical for me, I basically gave up on them. But this game here has shown me some serious pop from those guys. I like the look (it looks "woken up" compared to previous efforts, so to speak) and I like what I'm seeing in the gameplay. I'll never argue with a demo, so I'll look forward to it coming to NA soon.
Thanks!!
Did download it right away, please physical release soon
Out of all of the recently announced games after Pokemon S&S, and Luigi's Mansion this game looked the most interesting to me.
Don't care for turn-based gameplay so I skipped Tokyo RPG Factory's last couple games but can't wait to try the demo for this.
Wow I love demos. I’m so excited.
its a fun demo short and sweet gives you an idea on what the core gameplay is going to be like
I can't put my finger on it, but this newest trailer has shot up my interest enormously out of nowhere. Suddenly really looking forward to this!
Can't find the NA Demo only the preorder purchase......
This demo was excellent! I will be ordering the physical copy from Play-Asia
Which because a few people asked, does have the English option.
I've tried the demo, like the game but loading time is a bit too long and some slight performance issue. Hope the full version is better.
I just bought the pre-download of it today..
Completed the demo and i must confess, this game is great. Nice storyline and also i hope for it to be long(like 70hrs😁)
@IKAY @BrUniverse Cheers for the info. I just finished up with the demo and I loved it.
I definitely want to get this now, even if I have to import.
@IKAY Do we know if it includes English (and French and all) voices or just text as in the demo? I'm definitely not very interested to stick with Japanese-only voices :/
I think the only physical is Japan version that PlayAsia sells and that has english on it. So I think the Japan version has english on it.
@SwitchForce I get that, but I am afraid it could be like in the demo: English text, but not the voice. Which would suck, IMHO.
I tried the demo. It didn't scream buy me. The demo temporarily stalled, the society in the story is screwed up, it feels weird not to be able to jump and the button inputs don't always seem to work. It doesn't even have a physical release.
I really wanted to like this too.
