Now that Phantasy Star is finally available in the west, Sega has decided to clarify when exactly fans in North America and Europe will be able to get their hands on the next Sega AGES title, Out Run. Following the news the arcade racer would arrive worldwide early next year, the Japanese company has confirmed it'll be ready to go on 10th January 2019.
This modernised 1986 AM2 classic has been handled by M2 and includes 60fps, widescreen support, a ranking system to see how you stack up against other players and gyro controls to recreate the steering in the original arcade game. Much like the 3D Classics version released on the 3DS in 2015, it also includes tune-up features and BGM. If you can't wait until January, you can always go and purchase the game from the Japanese eShop right now for 999 yen, as the menus and settings are all in English.

Awesome. Now I don't have to rely on my 3DS or Yakuza 0 to get some hot Outrun action
Already on it!
You also get to save replays of your gameplay and the game will upload them to the leaderboards. But only the top 50 for each of the 5 goals, in New (International) and Old (Japan) course layouts. Playback can show your steering wheel and pedal inputs, which is a great learning tool. Even though they're available, I refuse to watch the top few players' replays. I want to figure that out on my own.
Horizon Chase Turbo will scratch the itch admirably until 1/10/19. Then the king returns to reclaim his throne!
So excited for this!! 2019 getting off to a great start for switch
I guess Outrun won't have quite the future Sega was predicting in 1993.

Oh baby!! Day 1 ššš¤£ the King has returned
Oh this is a day 1 for sure!!! Outrun is fantastic and one of my go to games for quickplays!!
This is a fantastic port, of that there is no doubt. Just get it now from the Japanese eshop.
Ahh I thought it was releasing later. Good to know!
This should have been released now in the Uk would have loved to be playing this over Christmas I was thinking about getting a jap account but not got round to it a couple of people on here explained how to do it but I donāt like the idea of having to buy eshop cards to use on the jap eshop does anyone know if PayPal can be used instead
@Gs69 I was like you when it came to Japanese eShop cards, but i took the plunge and bought a 1000 yen one from Play Asia. I got it emailed straight away and it worked fine! I'm now playing Outrun on my Switch and it's very nice!
@RetroBillyT thanks I keep thinking yeah I will do it but then end up not doing it will have a look later on at lunch sounds quite simple Iām just desperate to play outrun itās one of my all time favourites

Again:
Great news. It certainly makes up for the repeated delays of Phantasy Star's release. I hope from now on they fulfill the promise of "at least one per month".
About the game, I already have it on multiple systems including 3DS, a port in which this one seems to be based, but I'll buy it again day one and I guess Switch will be the system where I'll end up mastering it. I love it, but I kind of suck at it. Only finished Course A on 3DS, when it comes to arcade close ports. I finished all 5 courses on Mega Drive, but it's not the same.
Now I'll be able to enjoy it in a bigger portable screen, and on a current TV screen without the image being blurry or stretched. Great.
I'm so glad all the improvements from the 3DS version are back + even more good stuff like gyro controls which, I'll say it again, worked wonderfully in Super Hang-On on 3DS.
@Gs69 I've been getting my Japanese eShop currency from Play Asia and the turnaround is super fast, like a minute or two at most (from my experience). At any time of day, too. If there is any downside, the eShop's gold coin bonus will be stuck to the Japanese account. But, you can always use the bonus coins towards your next SEGA AGES purchase. Actually, always use up the bonus coins on the next purchase, before the one year expiration is up. Or else you'll forget about them...like I did...
@Moroboshi876 The blur filter is actually REALLY good here! Every pixel edge blurs so slightly into the adjacent pixels. It's real subtle, but very effective, and not overdone.
@RudyC3 Sorry to say, with gyro controls on, the controller needs to be re-centered frequently. Kinda hard to do when you're almost always turning. (I usually have to wait until before or after the fork in the road to re-center). Also missing, 30FPS mode (thank goodness!), and the tilting of the "cabinet" borders (to make it look like you're playing on a deluxe seat with the hydraulics). It's understandable, it would be weird on a stationary TV as opposed to a 3DS. Still perfect, otherwise.
May pick up one day discounted or awhile from now on a whim. Playing through the huge amount of content in Smash and anticipating wadinf through the SNK, Sega, and Atari collections...not to mention I know I'm getting Civ 6 and Lets go Pikachu....just too many games. Maybe February.
@KingMike Sega were way off in predicting the future with OutRun 2019. There werenāt any traffic jams or roads full of potholes in that game!
I have seen quite a few Out Rut-related news this year...
Day one the best arcade racer EVER !! have this beauty on my arcade Mame setup. Will be nice to have on switch, for portable mode.
