Already have a copy preordered on Amazon. Pretty keen, it's looking really nice.
Pre-ordered at the Nintendo store already. I'm in the mood for a classic Square RPG I've never played, absolutely.
That’s great we are getting a physical non LRG retail release. If the other games from the direct also get this treatment then my opinion on it will change slightly (I wanted news of Bayonetta, Prime 4 and P5R and was disappointed).
The price is on the high side for a game of this caliber. 30 or less should've been just fine.
I don't want to gloat about this but since it is published by Nintendo in the west it may be exclusive? It was never stated to the best of my knowledge.
The more I've heard about this game since the direct, the more interested I am. Glad it's getting a standard physical edition.
Live A Live looks more interesting than Triangle Statergy
this is a physical buy
as a tribute to the SNES days
I pre-ordered from bestbuy, it was there turn in the don’t order everything from amazon challenge.
I'll wait until it's €30 used or new. I want to have it in a box, but 50 is too much.
Best Buy also has it up for pre-order in the US. Been trying to find pre-orders for the Klonoa physical with no luck so far.
@Darthroseman came here to say exactly this. It's also available on Walmart's and Target's website in the States as well. It's weird we haven't seen Klonoa as of yet. Been looking myself.
@Darthroseman It's also interesting that Klonoa isn't listed on Nintendo's online store in the US either.
@Zverik Not quite sure how $50 is too much. It's a complete remake of a game unreleased outside of Japan, requiring extensive work to localize. A lot of hard work and care has obviously gone into this project. With the title being somewhat niche, as it is an old school jrpg that many haven't ever heard of, there's no guarantee of it pushing great numbers. I think $50 is incredible fair, given that it's not just a phoned in emulated port or a crappy mobile-style version.
anyone know how this stacks up against the other classic Square SNES games?
@CowCatcher It's so weird but Amazon UK doesn't show the game in Ireland. Does anybody know why? Thanks!
Bestbuy has it listed @ $59.99, while Gamestophas it @ $49.99
Meanwhile Amazon (US) is m.i.a. I usually avoid Gamestop but I have store credit and it's cheaper so it's a no-brainer for me
Amazon (UK) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Live-A-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B09SQF7FF4/ref=sr_1_11?keywords=Live+A+Live+Switch&qid=1645228716&sr=8-11
I assumed this would be digital only. Good to know.
My order is in! Looking forward to it!
Here's hoping Square Enix look at more of their SNES rpgs and re release them. Soul Blazer, Illusion of Time and Terranigma would be excellent!
@Bizzyb Looks like atm Best Buy is the only one with that ridiculous price. I'm hoping it's an error, because I have some rewards I'd like to use. But not if it just brings the price down to a little less than what it should be in the first place. If not, I have some Gamestop cash to put towards it.
If Square was in its prime between FF6 and Chrono Trigger, it's noteworthy that the two games in between those are the ones we're finally getting localizations of this year: this and Front Mission. It's super exciting that this might not be the usual $60.
question: where to pre-order?
answer: nowhere, wait and see if it's good enough, then wait for a sale and maybe a patch or two. Plenty of good games at lower prices out there already, chances are those looking to pre-order have a decent back log to pick from. Even I do, physical and digital quality single player games, patched up, at much better prices. The difference is in patience and lack of fear of missing out, or 'lofomo'. If it didn't exist before, it does now.
My only regret is that I didn't support the work that went into Disco Elysium earlier, but then again, I got a cheaper physical portable game, now fully voiced, and with way better load times, as my first experience with what might be one of the greatest games I ever played. And I'm not some kind of light bending mega rich guy. Not unlike him, I like to make smart decisions with my 'money'.
@Medic_Alert Your patience will pay off, eventually you will find it within that price range (before it goes up again, probably).
@cmbaum It's certainly different in that it's a series of independent short stories, which I assume lead up to a final scenario.
The original game at least, had random encounters which would be played out on a tactical grid. Kind of an unusual approach at the time, RoboTrek is the only SNES game with a similar battle style I can think of to make it to the US, though there were a couple other Japanese-exclusive RPGs I know of.
Square Enix appears to be on top of its game lately. Thoroughly enjoyed Triangle Strategy. Best game in that genre since Final Fantasy Tactics. I’ve played through twice. Once I went by my own gut on decisions and second time by the so-called golden route. Both times extremely enjoyable. Definitely a GOTY contender, for me.
It's a Pass A Pass from me since I doubt such an old RPG games mechanics would be enough for me to stay engaged these days and only a few parts of the video looked impressive with the HD2D. Oh and didn't even notice the $50. Jeez
No need to preorder but definitely looking forward to this.
I can't wait to play this!
The game looks really interesting, not sure if I'll get it at launch because so many other games are coming out, but in the future I'll be looking out for this one
It is very rare that I get excited about a turn-based RPG, but there’s something about this one that really appeals to me. Won’t be preordering, but I will be buying.
@SteamEngenius eh, I believe they've done a lot to liven up the old formula. This one came out at the end of the snes lifecycle of I remember correctly. So there was a bit of RPG overkill on the system they probably needed to remedy.
Looks good, can’t wait! Always happy to sample another gem from the golden era of RPGs.
How is the name of this game pronounced?
I can’t really think about it until I know the answer.
Are the words ‘live’ as in ‘I live here’, or as in ‘live band’?
Or is it one and the other?
Help!
@Matt-e-r "Live band" for both "Live"s
Cool, thank you!
@IndoorEnthusiast I can appreciate that! Heh, I ordered Capcom Fighting Collection from Target with similar thoughts... though might not have been available at Amazon anyway. (Issue with my card caused it to get cancelled a month after preordering and I missed the email, so I'm just gonna go pick it up from the store here in town... like right now, ha.)
Best Buy, Target, Playasia (for imports), even Game Stop once or twice. I do like to mix it up a bit. Actually Amazon is usually my last choice, but I do use it a good amount for gear and oddball purchases. I don't hate Amazon, but yeah... don't want to see other options disappear.
Sad that Japan only gets that sweet collectors edition 😭😭😭😭😭
This article is supposed to be cheapest price and the best deals. Yet the contrast between playasia and Amazon is massive. So which is it? 😂 also mynintendo store is way more than others.
@Moonsorrow999 It's more of a list of affiliate links dressed up as an article. Cheapest I've seen in the UK was £29.99 at Smyths I think. Currys sometimes discount new releases pretty quickly after release too - I've stopped pre-ordering from there as I've been stung by that a couple of times
I can get this for $25 or XC3 for $35. I'm choosing the latter because Xenoblade Chronicles has become my favorite RPG series.
@Zverik where are you seeing €50? It's €40 in my local shop boxed copy.
Waiting for the PC version. RPGs like this play better with mouse and keyboard.
Without too much in the way of spoilers, can someone lightly touch on how the stories come together? Is each character like a short prelude before they come together (like Octopath) or are they lengthy separate stories that only merge towards the end?
Or wait a few months for the inevitable sale!
I got it digital from Target with my employee discount and my RedCard discount.
Not every game is available to buy from Target digitally, so I’m always pumped when one I want is.
Looks interesting but it was either this or Xenoblade Chronicles 3. I rode the Xeno 3 hype train since February, and I’m not getting off early.
i feel like the price tag is completely justifiable considering the work that went into this and also to show that people care about jrpg preservation. If we dont want these games to disappear forever then we need to support them.
