Video game designer, director, and overall legend Yu Suzuki — he of Hang-On, Out Run, and Virtua Fighter fame — needs no introduction, especially to arcade-era, blue-sky Sega fans. Big kudos to the team for making additions optional. While I prefer suffering with QTEs in their brutal form, the camera change feature sounds excellent.
I hope the developers and team continue to prosper. Shenmue is it's own shield of quality, and even though it might not appeal to every audience, I believe the game series could benefit more picky "modern audiences" with just making two game modes. One is more modern leaning in its features, another leans to a more classic experience.
While this is already done with these features, as one of the articles says, it's not an overhaul, which the game doesn't need. But with the future I could see splitting development to account for both players that enjoy older gameplay, and players that enjoy a more casual experience.
Also thank you for being some of the earliest introductions I had to Japanese media and it's modern (and traditional) culture. Without it, I probably wouldn't have considered Japan outside of anime media novelty and Nintendo.
I feel bad for others who didn't try Shenmue before being introduced to modern anime/manga.
More experimentation and innovation, less nekos and slice of life dramas.
