Topic: Am I the only one waiting for Karnov?

I would love to see Karnov on the Virtual Console one day. I remember playing it as a kid and I also remember his appearance as the level 1 boss in Bad Dudes.

same here, I had the handheld, I guess it's still around somewhere... I'd be the first in line, well virtual line anyway, if it ever comes out.

You're not the only one, TC. I remember playing this before going to school...or was it after. It was like twenty years ago so I don't remember a whole lot other than actually playing it. I haven't kept my original NES like some of you so playing it on the VC will be the first time in over twenty years I've played it.

Not waiting for it per se, but i did love the NES game for all its glitchy awesome goodness. You just cannot beat a fire-spewing fat Russian dude as a protagonist!

She-Ra is awesome. If you believe otherwise, you are clearly wrong.
Urban Champion is GLORIOUS.

It involves a buff Russian who kills monsters and also appeared as a boss in the campy classic Bad Dudes (also another game i'd like to see come soon). What's not to love?

This one is owned by the guys who released Chelnov on the Japanese VC and the upcoming Heracles RPG for DS, so there's every possibility it could come to the VC in some form, but I get the feeling the company is small and presently focused on Heracles...

Karnov looks interestin', maybe I'll play the NES game someday.
I also heard that the main character appears in the SNES/NeoGeo game Karnov's Revenge/Fighter's History.
So, I'm interested.

To each their own

Heracles? are those the same guys who made Klonoa??? I think I like them more now!

Yep, apparently so -- good eye! They've also been given the reigns of the Donkey Kong franchise by NIntendo following Rare's sale according to Wikipedia. I still don't know how they ended up with only a few Data East games and have yet to see any mention of what else they have rights to besides Chelnov, Karnov and Glory of Heracles...

I had no idea they had the rights for DK, if they made Klonoa they could do a great job with a DK platformer, but one can only wish. Shouldn't they own the rights to all the games of Data East since they bought the company? anyway, I can see Karnov being a viable VC release, I have good memories playing that game, I'm gonna look for the handheld, it was so baaaad, just like the power glove haha

It seems they didn't buy Data East as a whole, just a number of DE franchises/properties. DE probably sold off whatever viable assets they had before closing up shop.

Yep, the Data East properties are mainly owned by a company that makes mobile phone games and just licenses out the IP which is why Data East Arcade Classics is coming from Majesco instead of G-Mode. Paon is the company that owns a few properties like Chelnov and Karnov. Other ones like the Detective Saburoo games reverted to their creators which is why these games are coming back.

All I can say is I'm glad the IP owners are doing something with it. No clue who owns Stern, Exidy and Universal's old IP; I would really like to see those old arcade games given new life; ah well, there's always MAME...

No, you're definately not the only one. Karnov is one of many titles I have fond memories of playing and hope to see released on the VC.

Section Z & Kid Nikki being a couple of the others.

I'd love to see the C64 version of Karnov on VC. That's just sooooo slow and the controls are soooo broken that it must be experienced to really believe it

I have fond memories of playing Karnov as a kid, but I'm not sure if I'd want to play it now. There are better platformers out there.
