Just finished this hidden gem last week and it was excellent, definitely in my top 5 of all time favourite games.
This game is begging for a HD remaster port to the Switch; since Nintendo just announced XCX DE; hopefully they will remaster more forgotten games.
I've just picked this up. Managed to snag a physical copy from CEX, so I can now proudly claim to own physical games that make up project rainfall. I've not started playing The Last Story yet but I am definitely looking forward to it. It looks awesome and I've heard some really good things about it.
How was it in terms of play-time??
Oh and I would love a remaster despite not having played it yet.
@manbaconmg, It took me 30 hours+ for my first play through, it has new game plus as well.
Overall, it took me 3 weeks to finish the game.
The story in this is absolutely amazing, you are in for a treat playing this 😀.
This is definitely my favorite of the Operation Rainfall games. I enjoyed it much more than Xenoblade. The characters, the battle system, the story, it was all great. I don't know that I need a remake since I still have it on Wii, but maybe if there's extra content. Definitely looking forward to Fantasian Neo because of this game.
@Xyphon22, I agree, the plot in this game was very well written and the cut scenes still look amazing in 2024; they actually used real actors and based the movements of the characters in game on them.
My favourite characters are Zael, Calista and Dagran.
As for additional content, the game hinted at a sequel in the post credits.
I really hope Nintendo revives this game.
I feel bad for never getting this or Pandora's Tower when I had the chance. I was such a huge supporter of them before release but I guess money was limited (and ironically thanks to Xenoblade, so was time :V).
Felt worse when Mistwalker had to go make mobile games instead. A fate worse than death.

The sad thing about the last story, is that it is good enough for the majority of Nintendo fans to enjoy but used copies are gradually becoming more expensive as time goes on.
I'd love a shot at this game since I've heard nothing but great things. However, unless I luck out and find a reasonably priced Wii copy somewhere, I think I'm stuck waiting for a remake or remaster.
@Tyranexx, I got lucky on eBay a few months ago, I found a used very good copy at the same price as a switch game, I feel sad for jrpg fans who this game is unplayable because of it being stuck on old hardware.
@Tyranexx, picking up games on eBay is pot luck, I browsed the site very regularly every few months and by pure chance I saw the game at a reasonable price.
I didn't really know what the game was before I decided to grab it,
I heard the developers at Nintendo were fond of Calista when the game came out.

Aaahhh I still regret not getting this game back in the old days...it was 12 euros back then...picked up Okami and Metroid Other M instead for 12 euros both (no regrets there, haha) with the idea to get The Last Story at a later time, but then the game just vanished from every store here in the Netherlands, only to pop up every now and then for an exorbitant high price. It is one of my "what games do you want to see coming to the Switch" answer at every survey and poll for years now. Hope someone with the power to put some gears in motion hears about this topic .
Gaming since the early nin(e)ties and probably will until death does me apart :) .

@Definitely-Not-Leon, agreed, I really wish there was some way of letting Nintendo know there is demand for this game, it did apparently sell over 100k copies in Japan.
Nintendo has been in a routine of porting some rare Wii games to the switch recently such as another code and ocean luminous so hopefully there is a chance TLS will come as well.
In the UK this game is getting rare; 3 years ago it was easy to pick up, now it is very rare.
@xenobladexfan eBay is indeed a luck of the draw site sometimes. I've used it more than once, though not frequently since I'm wary of scam sellers. But yeah, I'd love to see The Last Story re-materialize somehow.

It's definitely one of the better remaining Wii exclusives and, somewhat unusually for those, a game that doesn't require motion controls but can be played entirely with the Classic Controller. In that respect, at least, it would seem a relatively straightforward port. It is a big game though, and upscaling all the assets to HD quality would present a lot of work.
Mistwalker went on to largely make mobile games afterwards. However, Fantasian is well worth checking out, and will be coming to Switch soon.
Strangely enough Nintendo actually filed a new trademark in 2018 for TLS, that actually lasts until 2028.
In the trademark it says the game is the property of Nintendo of Japan.
I would absolutely love Last Story to come to Switch/Switch 2. Long long ago It was the only RPG I had on Wii. I don't have my old copy anymore and would enjoy replaying it.
@xenobladexfan It always comes down to whether they think enough people will buy it to bother going through the process. It's kind of a forgotten game now. Although it's wild to think that this game sold better in Japan than the original Xenoblade Chronicles Wii version did.
I assume if nothing else they'll add Wii to some version of NSO/virtual console eventually and this game might be resurrected then even if a remaster never happens.
@FishyS the legendary duo of Hironobu Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu, is the reason the game sold well in Japan.
I would like a Wii NSO, being able to play Mario Kart Wii and Smash Bros Brawl online again would be really fun.
TLS is good enough just for a raw port.
