Topic: Do you use a LAN adapter?

They have them at big computer/electronics retailers, because they are more often used for PC's and laptops. Fry's had a few models, but they were all twice the price as the ones on Amazon. I just ordered one for $12, in addition to a 100' CAT6 cable for $20. I can't wait for them to arrive! So sick of getting splatted because of the connection.

My Wii U sometimes doesn't recognize the LAN adapter and I have to unplug it and plug it back in a few times, go through the "Internet Connection Test" in the settings menu and keep trying it. My Wii U was laying flat and one time I turned it sideways on the stands and it suddenly started working. Now it's back to not working....

@Rexcalibr: Maybe delete the previously set up wifi connection from the Wii U, so it doesn't get confused? IDK; hopefully I don't have any issues.....

It started working again but I have to unplug it and plug it back in a bunch of times, restart my Wii U and try the connection test again. It isn't an issue with the internet because my laptop picks up connection fine. It's either my Wii U or the LAN adapter.

Test one of the other 4 USB ports on the Wii U and see if that solves the issue. One of my USB port on my PC is unpredictable in the same manner you describe.

@jariw:

Isn't it just two in the back? Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I usually have to unplug it and give it a few minutes, then try.

I've ordered a new LAN adapter. This one got better review and reviewed by many more people.

It's hard to find the official one by Nintendo and when I have seen it, it was like 60$, which is way overpriced.

@Rexcalibr: There are 2 USB ports at the front as well. But if you have tested both at the back with the same result, I'm sure it's the adapter that has the issues.

FWIW, play-asia.com has the official adapter (Japanese packaging) for way less than $60.

I wish I would have known earlier before I ordered that black one. Hopefully it will work without any problems.

I can still use my current one. It just isn't consistent.

@Rexcalibr: Well the black one will look nicer with your Wii u (providing you have a black Wii U) and while I have the official one I'm sure the performance will be nearly impossible to tell the difference!

I got a black one in the mail from a company called UtechSmart and it works a lot better than the KMD one. It also has an LED light that flashes to show you it's working and connected to the internet.

If anyone here buys one of these, do not get the KMD one.

I use a LAN adapter for Smash Bros. I've tested it over the months compared to just standard Wifi and the LAN adapter is much more reliable.

I have a Time Capsule router and a 60 Mbps down and 4 Mbps up connection. I've limited the number of wifi device on the network during testing and it does impact the Wii U while on wifi.
