After responding to a few "Retro" topics here, I thought this may be an interesting topic for discussion. I am not sure if there is another topic on this, but the search function brought me to some archived threads so, here we are.

Did you, or do you still read Gaming Magazines? What were/are your favourites? Are they still relevant?

I would be interested to read other people's views on this, as I personally loved Gaming Magazines and miss the hell out of them. I realise they are somewhat irrelevant due to the internet and other forms of media, but there is something about reading physical publications that I still quite enjoy.

If we could keep this topic open for future users to discover and post, that would be appreciated. Although that is for the site moderators to decide.

Anyway, what are your thoughts?

I miss them. I like holding a magazine with details of new games and even reviews for games.

Unfortunately, Nintendo Power and the like were before my time. I know for sure I would have loved them as a kid though. Now, I just use websites like this one to get information. A little more boring? Maybe, but it's convenient and less expensive.

Nintendo Force magazine is a great replacement for Nintendo Power. I have all the old NintendoPower magazines and enjoy flipping through them for the nostalgia. When I heard of Nintendo Force I checked it out, saw how cheap a subscription is, and have had a subscription for years. Easily worth it! Check out their website here: https://www.nintendoforcemagazine.com/. Every time I get an issue it is easily the best mail I get anymore.

I had a subscription to Nintendo Power when I was kid. Started with the first issue and had it up to the N64 era. I loved getting them monthly seeing all the new upcoming games, the full maps they did on some games and then of course the codes and secret tricks for games.

I do miss them but honestly with the internet around I can understand why they aren't around anymore. I mean by the time you would get the magazine all the news would be old due to sites like this.

Totally get it. The media is really only relevant to those you would seek it out now. I do like the idea of digital magazines, but even that is inconvenient when you can just be fed updates via social media etc.

btw @B238ben & @Tasuki your profile pictures had me look twice for a minute there.

I have a subscription to 'EDGE' which is pretty good, quite balanced content for a multi-platform magazine - good representation of PS/NSO/XB/PC.

My understanding is the last game magazine is the US was Game Informer, and that was probably because of the GameStop funding.
Didn't even they get shut down a few years ago?

It was definitely when the Internet got popular that it shot down the demand for print magazines.
But before that, the maps and hints from Nintendo Power were some of the only help you got on games (short of contacting the Nintendo Power tipline, where you either rack up the parents phone bill calling them, or wait weeks waiting for an answer mailing them questions).

I have a subscription to Retro Gamer, but I'm usually a bit slow to actually get around to reading it - I take it to work to read in my lunch break, but usually end up reading the Nintendo Life Forums instead. I'm probably about 4 or 5 issues behind - currently reading the issue featuring the A500 mini which I think was maybe March or April

I currently subscribe to two gamer magazines: Retro Gamer and SEGA Powered. Both are good for a dose of nostalgia and I try and read them through (aside from some things that don’t interest me as I didn’t have that particular system back in the day). I found that Retro Gamer was especially good during lockdown as it gave me something to look forward to each month.

Seems a few here still subscribe to magazines. I’ve seen Retro Gamer, but have never bought an issue. I like sitting through old mags for the nostalgia sometimes.

@Gamecuber SEGA Powered looks pretty cool!
