we should have no more Wii U ports.
I bought a Switch to have new games released for it.

Like you said the other day on another thread to someone having a tough time coughing up full price of Wii u ports(nsmbu). If you don't like ports coming over , just don't buy them. Having never owned a Wii u until recently, I welcome all of the Wii u ports on switch. If you've never played it before, It's a new game to you. From what I understand, the Wii u had some amazing titles on it and those titles need to see new eyes on switch. Especially with its true portability that the Wii u didn't have. I don't see any reason to complain that great games are coming to switch, New ..or a port..

I Hope Nintendo gives Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE another shot on Switch. i would love to see it getting success on switch, since it sold poorly on Wii U.
i would also like to see Xenoblade X get a sequel instead of a port. if they do a port of the game, i hope they bundle it with a sequel. (just like they did with Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2)

that's pretty much the only ports that i want to see.

3d World, Color Splash and Wind Waker HD are the only ones left I really want. I think all 3 have a good chance of making it over. So glad they're bringing over the best Wii U games to the switch!

@redd214 I'd be happy with all those 3 too. Not a Wii u port but it was on Wii u.. id like skyward sword on switch.

@nintendobynature yeah I think that has a good chance too. I'd be willing to give it a go if they implemented a non motion control option but I know that would take a lot so will probably skip it if it comes as is with an hd coat of paint.

I remember when the Gameboy advance was first out, I wasn’t that interested, but then I saw that there was Super Mario World, Final Fight, Desert Strike, Speedball 2, Zelda LTTP. I was like: wow being able to play these games on the go, and all faithful ports.
And a fantastic library of new games.
Same again with the 3DS, Zelda OOT, Star Fox 64 ...... wow being able to play these on the go, and with a fantastic library of new games.
With the Switch, history is repeating, except this time (IMO), the Gap from Home Console to Hand Held is not big, and the fact your Home Console Games are the same Games on your Hand Held at a good quality (there are obviously exceptions), that you can play anywhere / anyway you want.
For me that is a dream come true.

I don’t get the complaints about Ports. If you don’t want them, don’t buy them, why waste your time complaining

@redd214 Wind Waker HD again would be awesome one of my all time favourites in HD and on Switch would be awesome. Colour Splash may not be the best Paper Mario out there but it is still a solid title worthy of playing. I never used to be in to buying multiple copies of the same game but now I'm quite happy to rebuy anything that is decent.

I’m curious. How many of you would prefer a new game in any Nintendo series to a port in that series? These ports aren’t any cheaper so where is the motivation to ask for ports instead of new games? Even if you haven’t played a certain game, millions of other people have. Play the theoretical new game instead. Everyone wins.

Nintendo is worth billions of dollars. They can afford to fund new game development. Some fans act like Nintendo are an indie developer working out of a shed.

they say that life’s a carousel, spinning fast you’ve got to ride it well. The world is full of kings and queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams. It’s heaven and hell.

I’m sure people will be here soon trying to justify charging full price for a 6 year old game (NSMBU). ‘A good game is a good game’. By that logic they would still be charging full price for NES games.

@Bevinator You're foolish to think that ports are mostly replacing new games, new game development takes much longer. You get the port and then later on you get the new game but removing the port doesn't mean anything for the release date of the new game.

MK8 Deluxe is probably the only Wii U port that affected the release of a new game in the series.

@Bevinator obviously I'd prefer new games but also what harm do ports do?? Bayonetta 1 and 2 were both ported doesn't mean development of 3 was postponed. They announced a Luigi's Mansion port and Luigis Mansion 3 was still being developed. There seems to be this perception that its either ports or new games but I don't see why we can't have both. Like you said Nintendo is a big company they can handle a port and a new entry at the same time no problem. Ports are quick to make stop gaps while we wait for the next entry in a series. As for the price it all comes down to budget. If you can't afford full price for a port then there are always new games you can pick up instead. Personally I have no issue paying more than full price (import tax here is high) for a port if it's a port I want to play.

There are several Wii U games I want to play but haven't yet, but in most cases I'm happy to just play them on Wii U at some point in the future rather than on the Switch. One exception is Pikmin 3 because my Wii U doesn't have much storage space left and I don't have an external hard drive, so I probably wouldn't be able to download the DLC if I decided I wanted to. A Switch port of that with all DLC included would be lovely.

Really? Where is our new 2d mario then?

We will probably end up getting a Pikmin 3 port instead of Pikmin 4 as well (hope I’m proven wrong). It’s gone awfully quiet on this front.

Ports have a knock on effect for lots of games series.

Why bother making new games when fans will give you 60 dollars or 50 quid for 6 year old games?

But we have had new games in popular series on the Switch and more coming this year. One example doesn’t really prove anything.

DKTF
Mariokart 8
NSMBU
Probably Pikmin

More than one. Possibly more I’ve had a few beers

Would love a new captain toad game but the Wii u port covered that so will probably not happen now.

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

BenGrimm

@Bevinator

Fair enough but we’ve also had new or getting new

3D Mario
Splatoon
Kirby
Yoshi
Fire Emblem
Luigis Mansion
Smash Bros
Mario Party
Pokemon
Animal Crossing
Mario Tennis
I genuinely don’t believe ports have any effects on new games being made.

@Bevinator to be fair just because they haven't been announced doesn't mean there not in/will be in development. Nintendo aren't going to just announce every series they will release for the Switchs entire lifespan. If you were making this point at the end of the Switch's life span when there full strategy has played out then you might have a point but at the moment there is no reason to think we won't have a new 2D Mario etc. Why bother making new games when people will buy old for £60?? The question you should be asking is why not make ports when fans such as myself will happily pay £60 for a port and then another £60 for a new title??
