Topic: Update 6.0.0 won't detect my micro sd card

I have had my switch since day one, as well as my PNY 128Gb micro SDXC card. It worked as it should, storing pictures and games. However, when I updated my switch to ver 6.0.0, my SDXC card will no longer be detected. I tried it with a cheap NORMAL micro SD card, and it detected it right away. Yes, i have tried formatting it, but it will not show up. However when I insert it when it is on, it tells me to restart my console to use it (no update notice either), so at least it is being picked up... sort of.

I made an account just to comment on this. I'm having the exact same issue.

Had my Switch since day one, micro SD card working without issue. As soon as I updated to 6.0, it's no longer detected. When I go into data management, it says that my SD card is not inserted. If I eject the SD card while the system is on, it'll say "the SD card has been removed."

Not mine why not take it out and copy the nintendo folder and reformat it and copy the data back to it to see what happens. Or copy the data off and let NSW reformat it and then copy the data back from the computer back to the SD and see if it finds it again.

No dice. Reformatting doesn't work.

There's no need to transfer the data--save data is stored on the machine itself (iirc) and the game data can be redownloaded.

The issue isn't with the SD card but the switch itself. Since it happened right after the update, it's likely a software and not a hardware issue. But still no solution.

I have updated to 6.0 and have the same issue on a 128gb ADATA SD card, which works fine on my computer. Seems its a software glitch so hope it is patched soon.

Thanks switchforce, but the issue is definitely with the system itself. Again, SD card was working fine, restarted after the update, then no longer working.

@fatty501 same here updated and restarted and no issue why my sandisc 400gb card. Did you try another to see what happens. Then we will know if that is a card or system problem. If you didn't try to format to see if it wasn't the card it be harder to know where to start.

I did some more tinkering. I bought a new SD card (same type, Sandisk Micro SDXC), and it worked just fine. I was able to redownload my games, and access the save files that were on the console.

Here's the weird part: the switch is unable to access the data on the old memory card still. I inserted it into my computer, and sure enough the card is fine and all of my data is there. But, for some reason, it's now write protected to the point where I can't reformat it no matter which tool or workaround I use. My guess is that the update write protected the card, and now the data on it is inaccessible. Still no workaround, and no response from Nintendo. I'd really like to be able to use that card again.

Right here is the evidence you need the card has gone bad - one of mine in a Smart phone did that as well regardless of how I formatted it. The card wouldn't format and kept saying right protected.

Probably because they know the card has failed. You can't use a card that was not even write protect again. It's basically junk.

@SwitchForce Huge bummer, and thanks for clarifying. Any idea why that happened, and how I can prevent it from happening in the future?

Alternatively, any idea how I can try to remove write protection from the card? I tried to alter the properties, go into the registry, and use third party software. I'm anticipating that there's no fix.

@fatty501 can't say for why it happens but after some updates on my phone it couldn't detect the card or let me write to it. And attempts to format on a computer kept giving errors and a new card was the only way I concluded it had to be the card because I recall reading some that when it does this it has gone bad.

Im having the exact same problem!!!! Everything was fine since day one and now since the update my microsd has been having the same problems. Our only hope is to spread the word so nintendo can patch this [removed]!

To be honest, I'm not surprised there's issues with some micro sd cards. I know that between my 3DS (now given to my brother) and my 3DS XL they were for reasons unknown not able to use the same SD card or adapters. A given card might work for one system or the other, but not if you used the wrong adapter. Which should have, in theory, been identical.

Hello, have you find a solution for this problem, I have the same problem with my switch, since the update in 6.0.0 it rejects the micro sd, formatting is possible and I tested with different micro sd but impossible to use it it asks to restart the console.
I even performed a factory reset nothing changes ...

I'm wondering if this is the same problem I'm having. I bought a Switch last week and updated to 6.0.0 right out of the box on Day 1. This week, I bought a 128gb Samsung microSD card only to find the Switch would not detect it. So I bought a second 128gb of a different brand (SanDisk)... Same deal. These cards work fine in all of my other devices (Mac, PC, Android, even N3DS!) but the Switch does not see them.

I'm just about ready to go back to the store and exchange it for another, but if there's a solution that involves me not having to do that, that'd be great.

Same issues here. I've had the Nintendo Switch for months. Now I purchased a Samsung SDXC 256 GB yesterday and the Switch won't detect that it's in there.
I've put it in my computer to format it to try and work it out but to no use.
I used the recommended software to overwrite full format it (exFAT).

I don't get prompted to update as many say it should or anything.

Super annoying, nintendo fix plx!
