Its finally coming to Switch and Switch 2. Very excited for these games to be back on a Nintendo console. I am hoping that these dont turn into a lagfest like the Mega Man collection did. Will be getting this day one of course.

Physical.edition announced. This will probably be one of the few games I will own physically.

The physical release is up for preorder on the Atari website for both Switch and Switch 2. It doesn't ship until the end of May though.

D-Star92

As a fan of Nintendo and Disney, I'm excited for this. I watched a lot of these shows on Disney Channel a long time ago too, so I'll be sure to pick it up. There's a 10% preorder discount on the eShop, as well. I will point out though that there's two different versions - one for the Switch 1, and one for the Switch 2.

"Give yourself the gift of being joyfully you."

Playing: Mario Kart World, Disney Dreamlight Valley

Ask if you want to be Switch friends with me, but I'd like to know you first. Thanks! ❤️

I've had this for years(Minus Bonkers & GoofTroop) on PS4, and it never felt at home or right playing it on PS4 Pro and now PS5 with either a DualShock 4 or Duelsense...

But to get this on NS1 or NS2, on a Nintendo console, with a Pro 2 controller and it's traditional-styled D-pad, with the inclusion of GooF Troop, plus a physical copy. Yup, I'm hip!

I wish they would of retooled the CRT filter and got rid of the motion ghosting effect they applied. Monitor mode is stll slightly better than having no filter at least. I'm getting this day one digitally, and then double dipping and either getting it physically on NS1 or NS2. NES carts for Chip n' Dale 2 & DuckTales 2 are around $500(Cad) a pop off eBay. eek! They're THE reason to buy this collection. Plus the latency is very low, at least with the PS4 version which I hope rings true for the NS1 & NS2 releases.

Even if they flub the CRT filter yet again, you could always go the extra mile and hook your NS1 or NS2 up to a RetroTINK4K scaler and use it's CRT filter options to get it looking like the real deal. Also, since NES emulation always suffers from darker desaturated colours. You can just switch to Native(Instead of Auto) or Wide color gamut on your TV and jack the color up right before the colors start to clip to compensate.

@NeonPizza Yeah playing it with anything but a Nintendo style Dpad is just wrong. I have it on PS4 and Series X and I just can't play it with those Dpads.

Which brings up an interesting thought. When I get the Steam Machine in a few months I should just get my NES games on that. Not only have I heard that lag is far more tolerable on PCs but that way I can get a NES style controller and that way I don't have to deal with Sony or MS Dpads. I am not sure if the Switch Pro controller is Bluetooth or not. If it is though that would be another bonus.

I have DuckTales on my NES and GameBoy, and I still play it from time to time. Suuuuch a good game. I kind of like how the GameBoy version lets you pogo hop without doing the down arrow at the same time, though.

Honestly...it would be even more complete if it had the Mickey Mouse games...problem is that some of them...mostly the Illusion games...were developed by Sega. Then there's Mickey Mania. Plus...what about the Game Gear & Master System versions? Why not include them? It's easier said than done though...when most of them were developed by different studios. Plus...Mickey Mania (Genesis, SNES, PS1, SEGA CD) haven't been re-release in any capacity.

But what I'm getting at is unrealistic really...

@DanijoEX-The-Kumiho Look at the name of the collection again, The Disney Afternoon Collection. These games are all games based off of the shows that made up the Disney Afternoon block. Mickey Mouse never had a Disney Afternoon Show and even so those games weren't based on Disney Afternoon Shows. Maybe if it was called the Disney Collection then yeah sure but its not. The only game that is missing from the collection that would make sense is Gargoyles.

I haven't messed with XSX's Elite controller, but the standard has thee' worst D-pad I've ever used with a traditional controller before. It feels like MS found a board game accessory and slapped it on their controller. lol Buttons feel cheap, the analog sticks are loosey goosey and harshly grind against the inner circular rings and it doesn't have Haptics or Gyro... BUT, the Robot White edition looks really nice, and I Love the Dreamcast-y' L&R triggers. But that's slim pickings compared to how terrible everything else feels.

And when you say, getting NES games on the Steam Machine, do you mean through emulation or with stand alone/compilation releases? Man, I'd love a brand new fresh NES-styled controller. Buying used ones suck just because of the wear and tear, stained/yellowed Grey outer plastic(Which was once a bright beautiful grey in the later 80's & 90's), and the silicone pads beneath the buttons & d-pads are all mushy and worn out. I'm done taking apart controllers, cleaning them out and replacing them with silicone button pads that never feel like the real deal.

Also, the NES controller just hasn't stood the test of time imo, even with a brand new NSO NES controller or NES Mini. The Rubbery squishy start and select buttons suck, including the rectangular concave box surrounding them which is just stupid. I hate the indented topped' B&A buttons too, and how the cable itself is placed on the left side instead of the top middle.

If the Dogbone NES Controller were a bit larger, and placed the B&A buttons sideways like the original NES controller instead of an arch it would of been the to-go-to NES controller. When i finally got one from eBay, I was surprised to see just how much smaller it looks in person. it's less comfortable in the hands too, and it's awkward having to arch your thumb up due to the position of B&A(Mainly for games that require you to hold down B to run while simultaneously pressing A to jump like in Mario Bros 1-3 for ex), and just how much more spaced out B&A are from one another.

On the flip side, it looks cool, the D-pad feels good, Start & Select feel better and they're not stuck in a concave box, and Nintendo placed the cable at the top middle instead of the left side, plus B&A have smooth tops instead of being indented. Still wouldn't recommend it though.

the SNES controller however is the king of 8-16 bit retro controllers. I'd rather just play NES games with that if i could map B&A just to Y&B. Oh, and the first game I'm buying on Steam Machine is the Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection. it's the only version worth buying since it has the same amount of latency as the actual Arcade games like i mentioned in another post. As for the Steam Controller itself, I'm irked that they rolled with a Symetrical PlayStation stick layout, but I probably won't be buying many Steam games on it to begin with. I'm buying the SM pretty much soley for the Steam Frame to give it a big boost in power.

I already bought it but it won't be available to play until tomorrow morning. I hope they improved the TV filter and got rid of the weird ghosting phosphor motion effect like in the PS4 version. Chip n' Dale 2 and DuckTales 2 are THE reason to buy this, since they're about $600(cad) a pop on eBay. 😉

Latency is lowish on the PS4 version. Not even close to being as bad as Mega Man 1-6, or 7 and 8 in the LC. Hopefully that rings true for both the NS1 and NS2 ports.

if anything you'll get less lag when using the NS2 Pro controller wired, vs the Pro 1 wireless. But ya, I'd rather just rebuy the original carts for DuckTales, Chip n' Dale and Goof Troop, and call it a wrap, but i typically always cave with these shiny new retro compilations. Frikkin nostalgia bait. Lol As for the others, Tail Spin is the weakest link, Dark Wing Duck is like a lesser Mega Man, and DT2 and Cn'D2 supposedly aren't even as good as the originals. Havent messed with Bonkers though!

@NeonPizza Yeah DT2 and CND2 just didnt strike as good as the originals. They almost feel like ROM hacks of the first games. I dont know if Capcom's A team were busy working on something else like SNES games or what but definitely the two felt like B team games.

Talespin is the weakest of the bunch. That one too just felt subpar for Capcom. I did manage to beat tbe game once when I was a teenager and quite honest was shocked I did.

I have heard rumors that Darkwing was original planned for a Mega Man game and then just added all the Darkwing stuff to it. Still its definitely a fun game especially if you like Mega Man.

I really wish they added the Ducktales Gameboy game along with Bonkers and Goof Troop but maybe they plan to do a Super Deluxe version or something.

Still I.will be picking it up.

Seems like Capcom improved the TV Filter setting. There doesn't seem to be any funky ghosting going on compared to the PS4 version, or maybe I'm just tripping. I'll have to redownload the PS4 version and compare the two. But ya, it feels right at home on a Nintendo console, and the NS1 & NS2 Pro controllers traditionally styled d-pad just makes these games a lot more enjoyable to play vs the DualSense's detached-rubbery-thing they call a d-pad.

Latency is noticeable compared to the real thing, but it's not as bad the Mega Man games in the Legacy Collection(minus 9&10 as I've said abizzilion' times(eek!) since they're not emulations.), and nowhere near as terrible as that Genesis Classic Collection, the latter being the worst offender. Oh and Bonkers is as mediocre as it gets and aint worth bonk sh**. lol It's charming and looks stellar, but it's a total slop fest n terms of game play, and the extra added weight from the lag doesn't help matters either. And as expected, the NES games in this collection have darker desaturated colours compared to the real thing, which has plagued NES emu' since the Wii VC days and onwards. I'd recommend bumping up the color on your TV a little to compensate.

And I'm glad they included the 'original' aspect ratio which shrinks down the screen a little instead of being displayed in full 4:3. NES games look bad on larger screen sizes, like on my 55" OLED. It would of been nice if Digital Eclipse went the extra mile and did an 'Arcade Archives' by including the manual screen shrinking. As is, the Original aspect ratio setting comes to around 37" Fullscreen on a 55" HDTV, which is still too large imo. 32" is when i cap out for SD consoles. 27" I'd say is perfect for the 8-32 bit generations. 32" is a MUST for Dreamcast, PS2, GameCube, XBOX & Wii.

And speaking of romhacks, I always hear people saying the exact same thing about LOZ: Oracle of Seasons & Ages for the GBC. Artistically, they look identicle to Link's Awakening which always put me off. I remember my cousin getting both around the time the GBA launch but i never really took much interest. I was too busy having a blast with F-Zero: Maximum Velocity, Super Mario Advance, Chu Chu Rocket & Tony Hawk.

And ya, Capcom probably didn't feel like going all out with either DT2 or Cn'D2 because they were released very late into the NES's life span. They probably just wing'd it and handed it over to the C-Team in the underbelly slums of Capcom's studio. lol That, or they just outsourced it. Heck, both Mega Man 5 & 6 feel 100% out sourced. they lack the magic, quality, soul & creativity of 1, 2, and even 3.

And I had no idea that DWD was originally planned to be a MM game. pretty cool! I'm actually really enjoying it, even though it's a bit awkward and abrupt when landing after a jump and then running forward. The jump-landing to run transtition is not smooth and seemless like it is in MM, but as a whole it does enough to stand out on it's own to make it feel unique and original enough. DWD's animations are really impressive too, when he's either using his cape to shield incoming projectiles or just ducking. It's a big leap over Mega Man's sprite animation which has been the EXACT same since MM1-6 and 9&10.

Anyways! I'd still recommend the Disney Afternoon Collection. When Docked, just make sure to use the NS2 Pro controller wired to cut down a bit of latency, use the TV filter in the games setting, the original aspect ratio setting and bump up the color on your TV specifically for the NES Disney titles and you're good to go!

@NeonPizza Yeah thats one of my main reasons for getting it on NS the Dpad. 😆. It just doesnt feel right with an Xbox or PS4 Dpad and totally feelings wrong with an analog stick.

Yeah by the time Bonkers was released Capcom lost most of its Disney magic, nothing by that time just didnt feel as good as the NES Disney titles stuff like Ducktales, Chip N Dale, and even non Disney stuff like Little Nemo. The only good Disney game that comes to mind was Aladdin on SNES and even that couldnt compare to the Genny Aladdin. I have heard good things about Goof Troop but we will see.

As for those LoZ games I tried them on the Switch NSO and I wasnt impressed. I never even finished them to be honest.

I am looking forward to grabbing the DAC this weekend and checking it out then. Will report back when I do.

Goof Troop is a bit slow, but it's still a good time. I just wish it had a run/dash button when backtracking through the same areas. It feels like it borrows a little bit from Adventures of Lolo(NES). Great music too! Oddly enough, This was Resident Evil's Shinji Mikami's first game he ever developed. Out of all the games in the collection it's definitely the black sheep.

And I wish they added The Little Mermaid(NES) or Mickey Mouse Capades. Magical Quest 1 is a classic even though Mickey has 'dead eyes' and lousier animation vs Genesis's Castle of Illusions Mickey Mouse Sprite. I really liked World of Illusion and Quack Shot way back when as well, but I wouldn't surprised if those two in particular don't hold up all that well.

Meanwhile, Alladin on both Genesis and SNES are really good...Actually, come to think of it, I think the SNES version holds up better today with it's more acrobaticy' game play mechanics, environments, SFX quality and just because the SNES can display a heck of a lot more colors on screen, even though the Disney Animators did a wonderful job on the GEN versions sprite animations. Back when i was a kid it felt like the characters were peeled straight out of the movie, and we all braged about the Genesis version having the Sword. Takes me back to 93' when Alladin was all the rage. Genesis Alladin was pretty magical and special for it's time! Where's the Time machine dude!? lol I wanna go back! Late 80's and early to mid 90's how I miss thee'

But ya, I will never go back to the PS4 version of the Disney Afternoon collection. D-pad is gross on the Duelsense, the TV filter is worse, it doesn't feel at home on PlayStation and it doesn't have Goof Troop. It's obsolete I say! lol

@NeonPizza Yeah forget about Disney Afternoon, how bout just a Disney Collection. Kinda like the did with the Cowabunga Collection. That way then they could throw in Little Mermaid and Mickey Mousecapes maybe a few of the Genny and SNES Disney games. I would scoop that up in a heartbeat.

@Tasuki It's a shame they didn't do more with the 'Disney Classic Games Collection' from a few years ago. It's got all the versions of Aladdin, Lion King and Jungle Book, which is nice, but for a collection with such a broad title there's so many other games they could have included.

Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music

Just tested the PS4 version of The Disney Afternoon Collection, and yup it's 'TV'/CRT filter is awful compared to the NS2 Port. On PS4, the TV filter produces a weird smeary ghost trail that cascades off your character whenever you're jumping around, like with Scrooge McDuck in DT. It's whack. With the NS2 version that doesn't exist thankfully, just like it never did on the CRT's we grew up with.

The NS2 port is the way to fly. Good tacticle traditional D-pad with the NS2 Pro Controller, Greater TV Filter, GoofTroop(Total gem!) + Bonkers and just being home on a Nintendo Console feels like a redemption for this once PS4 exclusive collection. But what exactly are the differences between the NS1 & NS2 Ports? I'm guessing it's just 4K support and then 1080p in handheld. Oh, and then less latency with the Pro 2 controller wired vs the Pro 1(wireless. Oddly enough Pro 1 has more lag wired than wireless, but it's the other way for the NS2 Pro on NS2), which also has less D-pad miss-registers than the Pro 1 as well.

I think I'm going to rebuy the actual carts for DuckTales, Chip n' Dale, Good Troop and maybe Darkwing Duck. Once that happens, I'll never play this collection again other than for DT2 & Chip n Dale 2. Because there's no way in He-man I'm paying $600 for each cart.
