Do 3rd Party GameCube Adapters still work on the Switch?
I've got a Biogenik GameCube Adapter that I picked up for the Wii U. The one that looks like a small Game Cube.
When we first got the Switch, I plugged it into the Switch and it worked. It was a quick way for my wife and I to play games with our kids when we only had 1 set of Joy Cons. That's how we played Mario Kart and Arms.
But . . . I just plugged the GameCube Adapter in yesterday and it doesn't seem to work. If I plug it in, the lights above the controllers don't light up. If I press the button on the adapter when I plug it in, the lights above the controllers light up, but it doesn't seem to register as controllers with the Switch.
I plugged the adapter into my PC and found if I plug it in while press the button, it gets recognized as a GameCube Adapter. And I'm able to play Hollow Knight (through Steam) with a GameCube controller. So it looks like the adapter is working.
So, questions . . .
1. Does Switch still work with 3rd party GameCube Adapters?
2. Is there a trick to getting the Biogenik GameCube Adapter to work with Switch?
And . . . I tried it on the Wii U, and it doesn't seem to work there either. (Which means no 9 player matches on Wii U Smash anymore. )
What am I doing wrong?
We do have enough controllers to squeeze out 8 players on our Switch. But I'm just curious, and would be happy to get this 3rd Party GameCube Adapter working on our Switch again, so that more players could use GameCube controllers.
@NintendoDad The early october Switch firmware update 19.0.0 was the culprit that broke gamecube controllers working on Switch. Nintendo put out a patch in late october, 19.0.1 that was supposed to fix this, but I still see people reporting the problem on nintendoswitch sub reddit. I haven't seen any mention of a solution or workaround.
If anyone else NL knows otherwise, feel free to chip in.
@NintendoDad Well, it sounds like the adapter is working judging from the fact that it works on the PC. As @@WoomyNNYes pointed out it sounds like that update by Nintendo for whatever made it stop working on their products. Unfortunately if it's due to a software patch then there's no workaround it unless maybe some modding but we can't discuss that here.
I am curious if it's all GameCube controllers on the Switch that don't work. In the mean time maybe look into a Pro Controller for the Switch or another set of Joycons that way you can still play the games.

Thank you for the replies. I greatly appreciate it.
I was thinking it might be an update that is at the root of this. But I was hoping that either I was overlooking something, or that there was an easy fix.
Yes. I started down this path a while back, that's why I hadn't been using the Game Cube Adapter anymore, and why I hadn't noticed it wasn't working.
A while back I picked up a pair of 8BitDo GBros adapters to use with our Game Cube Controllers. I also picked up an 8BitDo SN30 Pro to swap between my PC and our Switch. And . . . more recently I got the 8BitDo Game Cube ModKit to bring back an old broken Game Cube Controller I had. That and we now have 3 sets of Joy Cons, so we can do 8 players on Smash. So, we are set.
If my Game Cube Adapter isn't going to work with our Switch anymore, I'm going to permanently set it up on my PC with an old Game Cube Controller and play Hollow Knight and Axiom Verge on it. It will be less hassle than moving my 8BitDo SN30 Pro back and forth between our Switch and my PC.
