The best release from various boutique publishers in 2022 are...

1Print - Paradise Killer
EastAsiaSoft - The Letter
Fangamer - Into the Breach
iam8bit - Cuphead
Limited Run - Astalon: Tears of the Earth
Numskull - Final Vendetta
Pix'N Love - Windjammers (post-LRG release updated cartridge)
Pixelheart - Andro Dunos 2
Premium Edition - Phoenotopia
Red Art - Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit
Strictly Limited - Epics of Hammerwatch
Special Reserve - Card Shark
Super Rare - Strange Brigade
VGNYsoft - Stellar Interface

Best Third Party Retail Release - Sifu (the best I've played in a while)
Best Asian Import - Chrono Cross (the port isn't great, but having this available outside of the Playstation ecosystem commercially is important for preservation)
Best Special Edition - Bullet Soul Double Soul Pack (wins by default since it didn't have a standard edition)
Best Game - TMNT: Shredder's Revenge (the best TMNT game ever honestly)
Most Unexpected - Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark (the best Europe-exclusive in years, and for the best srpg not named Final Fantasy Tactics)

Edit: Fangamer released both Into the Breach and Slime Rancher; both are great but the nod goes to Into the Breach.

@Magician Did iam8bit do anything else in 2022 other than Cuphead? Not that I'm complaining. I love the release.

The Eastward physical was this year? It feels like it was later.
