@metaphysician i think you misunderstood the point of that post. it wasn't to compare japan and the u.s., it was to compare the views between the dread and ravenous trailers. i just also happened to make the same comparison for the japanese trailers because i found it interesting there was still a bump despite metroid never ever doing well in japan.

@Haruki_NLI I mean it can. I think it will be worth the money, possibly even at 70 instead of 60 like last time.

I also thought the Advance Wars remakes were absolutely worth it, how'd that go for that release? I'm dead certain there is a significant portion of people who would want to play a modern Metroid of this quality but won't precisely because of the price. Whether that's "fair" is irrelevant.

The developers went from using a more clinical sterile bland safe approach with Dread's cover art for NS1, to a now, what seems to be, trickling almost into Super Nintendo cover art territory, with Samus in action, combined with fun vibrant punchy colors(That Ravenous title font is pretty stellar). Rather than having the lead protagonist poise stoically head-on.

Ravenous's cover, at least for me, slightly edges out even Super Metroid's. Never thought I'd say that. Samus's suit colors & Ravenous's Title font just scream FUN and are rocking that much needed flair that's straight up abscent from most Metroid cover art.

a day or two ago, i noticed metroid dread fell to #7 on the best sellers list on the eshop.

inexplicably it is now back up to #4. we're so back

also something tells me that stuff within the top 10 is selling fairly well, so the important things are more that it's doing this despite

• being so old
• being cheaper than some of the stuff it's outselling, because i just realized YOU'RE BASING IT ON OUTDATED INFO HAHA I CAUGHT YOU

last year they changed how the eshop best sellers list works. instead of copies sold in 14 days, it's revenue over the past 3 days. it was probably mostly to avoid cheesing your way onto the list by selling a game for five cents or something, but it also just makes it a little easier to gauge how it's actually selling

I've been worried for ages about Metroid Dread's long term success, game that deserves to be more successful than most Nintendo games but felt like 99.9% of its sales were from its first few months because its a full priced 2D Metroidvania. So no one has been happier to see a renewed interest in probably Nintendo's fourth best Switch 1 exclusive (the other three games are the exact ones you think they are, especially since each outsold Dread by several times). Edit: I'm currently playing Xenoblade 3, so non-zero chance this is disproven in a month, I just thought of that :V

Though it could be worse either way, that other classic series turned full priced 2D Metroidvania in Prince of Persia had its devs sent to the Ubislop mines for "only" selling 2 million in the same time Dread sold 3 or so million, while with Metroid we are getting a sequel at all, which sums up the difference between Nintendo and other companies pretty nicely.

but anyways, point being that it's generally maintaining good sales compared to stuff like tomodachi, which we already know is pretty much poised to be an evergreen seller. the changes from last year also mean dread is sitting higher on the list despite costing less, so it's (currently, i very much expect it to drop once the sale ends) selling more than a title we already know is selling fairly well because it takes more copies to match the same revenue

i would like to note that certain websites suggest the "engaged" (basically legacy) view count on youtube accounts for about 50-60% of total views, and since the metroid ravenous trailer happened a couple weeks after that change, it likely fits a similar metric. in that case, 60% of the current view count, and likely much closer to the "real" view count, is ~2.47 million, just about 100k below dread's trailer.

if these metrics are accurate, it's still probably a good sign it reached these numbers so fast, but it's more likely it will only barely beat out dread's trailer. still, there are signs elsewhere the trailer did spawn more interest in the series, so i wouldn't be surprised if ravenous does still end up outselling dread by a modest amount.
