A recent screenshot of a classification with the Brazilian government appears to have leaked a new Metroid game which appears to be the next mainline 2D Metroid title. The title is (I'm spoiling this even though the NL news headline directly names it):
Metroid Ravenous
Do you think this leak is credible? When might we see this game release? What could this name be telling us about the game? What else do you want to see in this game (or any potential concept for Metroid 6 should this leak be fake)?
I think it's real and it'll come in early October 2026 (1st or 8th) lining up with when Dread released 5 years ago. Reveal format being a Nintendo Today announcement sometime around the franchise's 30th anniversary on August 6th.
I used to think Duskbloods would be that slot but considering all we've heard about that game is that there's a summer closed network test, I get the feeling it'll be delayed to 2027.
Probably true. There were a lot of rumours for this game earlier this year, although not the name of it. And a lot of true game leaks come via Brazil because of their rating system.
I don't know why we needed a leak. Yes, there was going to be a new 2D Metroid within a few years of Dread. The only possible leak needed would be a leak that that wasn't happening, that would be a leak worth mentioning because that would be unexpected to anyone paying attention.
Remember during the first post-Wii U direct the big news was that Nintendo was making a 3D Mario and a Mario Kart for the system, that's how I feel about this leak.
I wonder what kind fo visuals they'll be using if this ever comes to light? I'd love to see Nintendo go back to pixels for this one just this once, you know? I betcha we come a artistic-looking pixel-based Metroid title since Metroid Fusion for GBA ( Yes I there's Zero Mission but that's a remake. Fusion was the only GBA original Metroid title).

DO YOU HEAR ME!?!
I do think I like the title they seem to be choosing for this next game, seems to be a very interesting followup to Dread.
Ravenous does potentially evoke several things that might make for an interesting Dread sequel. It may be exploring giving Samus more Metroid abilities and implying that Samus now needs to constantly consume enemies to sustain herself. I've wanted to see this for a while in fact because Metroids do have interesting abilities that might feed into the gameplay, such as energy draining mechanics (think something like the Grapple Voltage in Prime 3) and potentially levitation.
There could also be an enemy that is trying to consume Samus and that could imply that she's being hunted by deadly, insatiable predator(s).
Also I can't help but notice the word "Raven" in Ravenous. Potentially hinting at some type of story connection to Raven Beak? He was pretty blatantly killed in Dread but does that mean the end of his story? Could he have found a way to revive himself or perhaps something he did in the past will have relevance in this story? Maybe killing Raven Beak triggers some new type of threat, similar to how exterminating the Metroids led to the X becoming a threat (speaking of, could they be one of the threats that could be hunting Samus? Have we truly eliminated them all?)?
Some interesting elements could be at play here if this game is in fact real.

By contrast, I badly want to know if Retro is making Metroid Prime 5. They deserve redemption for being forced to make the weird compromised version of 4 we ended up with (especially with how good it could be when it wanted to be a Metroid game).
Should we assume it’s Mercury Steam doing this one too?
I don't see why anyone should assume that it's not them, given how well Dread was received and how well it sold (for a Metroid game anyway) it makes zero sense for Nintendo to get someone else for Metroid 6, unless MercurySteam was somehow too busy with Blades of Fire
@kkslider5552000 So are you saying Prime 2&3 are still good enough that you prefer those over a new game in the series?
I mean you could get other people to make it. The thing they already did.
shrugs
I understand a lot of companies are stupid and don't understand that you can make remakes and sequels simultaneously, but Metroid Prime remaster was a very clear exception to that.
@ElRoberico this would be fine if it wasn't expected that you had to buy the remake in order for a new game to ever be made and it takes ages to make any AAA game at all
Obviously Prime 4 is the logical extreme with its development, but it took like 6 years between Super Monkey Ball getting any game on Switch to getting any new game at all, which is longer than the period of time between the original Gamecube launch title and the Wii launch title they remade in the first place.
So while the person is wrong, it would make me incredibly angry if after 8 years of waiting lead to a disappointing game, they had Retro just do a remaster instead of finally making a new Metroid Prime worthy of the original trilogy. It's why I understand the anger toward the Star Fox remake, because while it was the right decision, they made every wrong decision for the previous 15 years it felt like.
