@N00BiSH Nah, I was just seeking a reason to latch onto hope.

I was already subscribed before Nintendo music but it's something I would be willing to pay the basic tier price for in and of itself. I just wish I could fuse it the other gaming soundtracks on Spotify.

being able to link nintendo music with, say, spotify, or even just your local library, would definitely up the value of it significantly more... but that depends on nintendo not walling things off, when building walls is pretty much their specialty.

...except google calendar. apparently that one gets a pass.

I'm wondering if them putting the Mario Galaxy OSTs on Spotify a few months back was a test to gauge interest, and maybe they'll put more stuff from NM on there in the future? There were definitely a number of odd things about that release, a whole lot about it makes no sense.

@Robot99 I thought that was just to promote the movie. Nintendo in general seems more prepared for movie promotion nowadays compared to how they were in 2023. Like on the games side of things, the Mario universe games supporting the Galaxy movie were mostly already released by the time the movie hit cinemas meanwhile the Mario universe games supporting the 2023 movie didn't really start releasing until 6 months afterwards.

@Robot99 I think it was done to promote the Mario Galaxy movie, as it was added close to the film’s release in Japan.

@Grumblevolcano @SneakyLink
I get that part, but there were more things that didn't make sense about it. "Limited time release" that currently has no deadline set, a very tiny and random handful of songs missing for no apparent reason... Idk the whole thing just feels weird to me. It being a marketing test for more OSTs in the future with an exit strategy in case they change their mind would make a lot of sense.

@Penguinpengy Thank you

@kkslider5552000 This, absolutely this. I typically only use local files because I find general music streaming services inconvenient, but Nintendo Music even with the number of flaws it has is the ideal VGM listening experience to me. VGM is not normal music, and Nintendo Music actually makes a serious effort for once to tap into that and it makes the app so appealing to me. The screenshots make navigating a tracklist so much more convenient and it's just fun to have a track's identity and connection to the game made visually present on my phone's media bar and on Android Auto instead of just having hundreds of tracks use the same general cover art like normal (not that you can't do that with local files but there's a reason most people tend to attribute Nintendo Music's drip feed to the screenshots requirement). Extending is also just the ultimate killer app, I know it's not everybody's cup of tea but I get so much mileage out of it personally. And also generally having things structured at games instead of albums is really nice, even with my local files when I make metdata adjustments I tend to change the album name to just be the game's name where feasible. And it's also like, when it comes to Splatoon or Animal Crossing the CD releases are split among multiple albums whereas Nintendo Music conveniently combines them together pretty cohesively, which is great.

That's probably a bit rambly but basically, when it comes to the actual listening experience they've largely delivered on what I'd wanted a Nintendo music streaming service to be so I'm quite happy with it, and I'd be quite interested to see the wider gaming industry at large try to take that on somehow.

Sorry for the double post but I hadn't read the Super Mario Galaxy stuff before my previous post.

@Robot99 Given the Spotify exclusivity and marketing campaign, the theory I subscribe to is that this was Spotify's idea. The limited time distribution being a natural compromise, and pretty much only less important tracks being excluded was probably to reduce Nintendo's licensing price. Speaking of the limited timing, Nintendo winding down on Galaxy Movie stuff (removing the tie-in home page section on Nintendo Music last week, removing features from the Galaxy Movie Portal on Nintendo Today now) makes me think they'll probably announce the end date soon (assuming they don't just pull the plug with no warning).

The main thing that's drawn me to Nintendo Music is simply how it has everything in one spot. Before the app came out, when I used to look up songs on YT, I would always end up forgetting about a ton of songs because I would have to look them up manually. Sound quality and volume is quite inconsistent this way too, and there was always fear of random takedowns. Ads are never fun either, like Rowlet and kkslider said.

I agree with Polley about the screenshots being really nice too! I do much better identifying things visually then I do with words.

Ah, that would make sense, yes!

Feeling DS this week for some reason so I'll go with either Big Brain Academy, Super Princess Peach or WarioWare: Touched!

I'm surprised Super Princess Peach never got obnoxiously tedious internet discourse, or at least none that I saw.

This seems like confirmation that the end of free roam was the end of Monday drops.

They just put out an "August highlights". I figured that they would probably pass over the Monday slot this week, this is a nice way to still keep the spot warm.

EDIT: Lol at Grumblevolcano and I having the opposite conclusions from this 😆

Figures. I liked having Monday drops; it was a nice way to start the week (and no, I do not believe the highlights are here to keep the spot warm).

There is unfortunately only one solution, and it is human sacrifice. Only then will the rains return.

This Monday may not have had a music drop, but Pikmin 3 Deluxe got a Switch 2 upgrade patch so that’s nice.

I guess we know what this week's drop will probably be in that case. Lol
