Pixar, they can make any concept into a great film. I also like the fact that Pixar movies are made just as much for adults as children. Most of Dreamworks films are just ok, which is why when I heard they were adapting How To Train Your Dragon, I wasn't sure it would be any good.

Pixar touched the world with Up, Toy Story 1, 2, and 3, Incredibles, and Ratatouille. Dreamworks slaps their names on a license and calls it a day. No contest.
Not really a fair competition to just pick and choose one section of Dreamworks films vs. the only thing Pixar does. Dreamworks has done some great films outside the realm of animation and kids movies.

Prefer Pixar, but they have a lot of dead scenery which always bothers me - with Dreamworks, everything that can be animated will be in some way. Go watch Shrek 2 and look at how much attention is paid to the backgrounds throughout the entire movie. Wheras with Pixar, everything that isn't a main character or important to the scene is a bit... lifeless. The worst for it imo is The Incredibles, sometimes the characters just don't look to sit right with their backgrounds, they're supremely animated in almost entirely static (and sometimes quite low-poly looking) surroundings. Actually wait, Finding Nemo is even worse for it. What happened to that spectacular coral reef after the first half an hour? One thing that movie taught me was that the deep sea is really damn bland.

There are a small number of Dreamworks movies that I probably like better than any Pixar movie... but they also have movies that are terrible and not worth watching. Quality from movie to movie varies wildly, so seeing Dreamworks name attached to a movie means very little to me.
Pixar is much more consistent with the quality of each movie, but has fewer movies that really appealed to me. Many of their popular "hits" left me disinterested - sometimes to the point where I didn't finish watching them. I recognize that those movies are still well-made, but they just didn't appeal to me.
So which is better depends on whether you pick only the very best movies to showcase, or watch the full library.
I don't know about Dreamworks' real movies but Pixar beats Dreamworks animation. Pixar did start computer animation movies + It seems that every movie that Pixar makes is different. Unlike Dreamworks the upcoming movie "Megamind" looks like a mix of Monsters vs Alians, and Dispicable Me. All of Pixars movies are different. Toy Story 1, a lesson about Friendship. the Incredibles, is their only super hero movie and it shows that every one is different. Cars is very popular, there is so much toys about him still today 4 years after the movie came out. Their upcoming movie "Brave" is their first Fairytale. Sure they have Shrek 1, and Despicable Me, and Monster Vs Aliens. and Kung Foo Panda But they also have Shrek's sequals, Shark Tale, the Madasgascar (But you have to give them props of signing them with Nickolodeon)

But it's also not fair comparing completely different genres of movies. If we limit Dreamworks to Dreamworks Animation, then we're comparing family-friendly computer-animated comedies.

Pixar's Great Movies: All the Toys Story movies Wall-e Finding Nemo Monsters inc Ratatouie (I think that is how it is spelt) The Incredibles Up
Pixar's OK movie: Bugs Life
Pixar's bad Movie: Cars
Dreamwork's Great Movies (CGI ONLY): Shrek 1 Kung Fu Panda Madagascar 1
Dreamworks OK movies (CGI): Over the Hedge Bee Movie Madagascar 2 Shrek 2 How to Train Dragon
Pixar's Bad Movies (CGI): Shark Tale Antz Shrek 3 Shrek 4 Monsters vs Aliens
Which one had more Great Movies (all in my opinion of course) Another Factor that makes Pixar better is Dreamworks line up of films Dreamworks announced Out of 7 films they (DreamWorks) announced coming in the next 3 years, 4 are sequals or spin-offs...That's not very original.
@Koops3: Despicable Me is by Universal Studios, not Dreamworks .
Personally, I don't know. Pixar does have more good movies than Dreamworks though, and I feel that Dreamworks is getting worse as it gets older (Monsters vs. Aliens anyone?). Pixar is still doing okay.
I'm pretty okay.

All you have to know why it is not going to be that great is the fact that it is a fairy tale setting, female protagonist, female director. That doesn't sound like the quality Pixar movie I'm looking for. On the bright side though Monster's Inc 2 is also coming in 2012.

I'm not excited for that. These sequels to movies that feel like they have a proper closing is really turning me away from Pixar. :/
