What's the most difficult game you have ever played? For me, it would have to be definitely F-Zero GX for gamecube. Try to play the story mode through in Very Hard mode and you'll understand what i mean. Not even Werewolf for the Nes can compete against it in hardness, even though i never finished that either.

F-Zero GX was a bear...a bear with giant sharp claws.

For me, it was Battletoads on the NES. Back then, I thought I really sucked at video games because it took me over a year to get past the 3rd level but now that I see it on all these "hardest games of all time" lists, I know now it wasn't just me. I really wish they would release this game on the Virtual Console...I would love to go back and actually finish the game.

Yeah, Battletoads was hard. Very, very hard. I managed to beat it as a child, somehow, but some of those stages still haunt me in my worst nightmares.

F-Zero GX wasn't that bad. But then, I've always been pretty good at racing games. Battletoads is another story. That game is definitely up there. I don't know about the hardest game, but it's pretty freaking hard.

F-Zero GX?? I used to be great at that one! Except for chapter 7 I think it was (the race) on very hard was almost impossible.
I could be Grand Prix on Master though without too much trouble.
I think two very hard ones for me are, Zelda 2 (the only console Zelda I have never beat), and Kid Icarus is pretty tough as well.

Double Dragon III is one of the most difficult because it gives you one life until you unlock another character and the steep learning curve. It will take you forever to get out of the first room!

I completed the Grand Prix on Master also. Just guess what was the stage where i got stuck to, and which i still haven't completed to this day. Chapter 7 on the story mode at Very Hard. Yes, the fact that this stage is absolutely impossible makes this game the hardest ever. The other chapters that i couldn't pass were 1 and 8..

If i remember correctly, death in this game meant that you were thrown back in the beginning of the game. What a pain... but still, this i also managed to play through years ago when i still had the NES. After that i quickly traded it for the sake of my mental health.

Yep, you lose your one life and you have to start over. It really makes you learn to become a ninja master that is for sure.
Can't believe you traded it though!

You're not kidding. I think i finally passed them all except for 7...might have even gone back and done it eventually but I'm not sure. Used to really love that game but haven't played it in years. Chapter 7 is so freakin hard.

Are you serious? I'm not kidding when I think that game is absolutely easy. Too easy even.

You know what's difficult? Getting all the items in Animal Crossing. Trust me, I've tried.

Just for you.

IWBTG, but screw the ultimate nostalgia"fan" game.

In terms of an actual worthwhile game, Castlevania 3. Apparently the japanese version is easier, which doesn't surprise me.

Some other ones too like F Zero GX, both the original and 3D reboot Ninja Gaiden 1, maybe Metroid Prime 2 on hard mode, the original Castlevania, any NES game with RPG elements unless you have incredible patience.

^Along with aforementioned Werewolf, Castlevania 3 is certainly the hardest Nes game i've played.

So addicting. My brother and I beat that game years ago. Very fun and awesome ending. (For what it was.)

I actually wouldn't know. All those insanely hard retro games I've never played, same with the difficult games of now. I tend to stay away for cruel games because I no like that stress haha. One of the hardest I've played recently was Donkey Kong Country Returns
