I was booting up pikmin today on my gamecube today, went to the forest navel, and while it was loading it said that it couldnt read the disc, so i cleaned it with a q-tip put it back in and it worked, but it made me think if I have ever had a console break, I havent yet but at one point my ps2 didnt work, but a couple days later it worked again, I just wanted to see if a console has ever break on you, and see if they're any trends like certain consoles breaking
My old PS2 broke (but whose didn't?) and scratched up a game to smithereens. Last fall my Wii stopped reading discs, which really surprised me, since my gamecube, 64, and even Super Nintendo still work. (The light turns on on my original nintendo but it won't work.) I guess they don't make systems like they used to.

Yeah I have actually. My original Gamecube was broke because of my own clutzyness. I tripped over the controller cord while getting up to answer the phone. My cube got pulled off the entertainment center and went crashing to the floor. After that it wouldn't read the discs anymore. I felt like crap and wanted to crawl into a hole and die. Luckily this happened only 3 months before the Wii came out so it wasn't long before I had a replacement.

My Wii sometimes refuses to read certain discs, namely Mario Strikers Charged and Red Steel 2. None of them is scratched and no other disc makes this problem show up. Kind of weird... I might finally clean that thing with the official cleaning kit I've purchased a while ago.
My PSP (which I don't have anymore) crashed on me a few times for non-specific reasons. It froze mid-game, then turned off automatically, and I'm positive that battery was good. It didn't happen often, and current owner does not report this to happen, so duh. Also my PS3 crashed on me a few times, once even corrupting one of the save files. Again - it is random and happens rarely, so I never bothered with warranty.
Even my 3DS died ONCE, showing the infamous Black Screen of Death. That was after the first software update, and after that (and re-formatting the SD card to FAT32 system) it never happened again. I guess only my DS stands unbreakable...
With the 'cube, you can open the tray and remove the disk, then reinsert it and resume playing! This trick has helped me keep my sanity and my progress, despite the read errors.

My cat got caught in the cables of my 64 and pulled it off the bed, slamming it into the floor. Still plays great. The gamecube was pretty tough, i'm surprised that broke it. Do you guys remember the tests they did on XPlay of the GC, PS2, and XBox. Nothing could stop the gamecube.

@ SamuraiShyGuy My Gamecube's lense must have been knocked out of alignment when it hit the floor. It was about three feet off the ground when it fell. I tried every disc I own but it was definitely screwed. The older systems are Tanks though. My original Nes still works fine. I dropped a Gameboy in the Toilet once and it still worked once I let it dry off.

I am on my third PS2 Slim. Also on my PS the thing that goes into the center of the disc came off when I went to remove a disc one time and after that it would never read a disc again.

My Xbox 360 red ringed on me and my Dreamcast turns itself off every 20 minutes or so, I guess it overheats. Funnily enough I once dropped my Gamecube down a flight of stairs and it still works absolutely fine, it only has a few marks on it.
A part of the case on my N64 broke, but it runs fine except for sticky buttons on the controllers. One of my NES's (I have two) won't read the cartridges but that might be from dirty contacts.
