Had to check the manual, because it's wasn't obvious how to do it, but it's left/right on the D-pad to change the colour, and it's only one colour of ink you get to use for the whole note.
I'm just gonna say it... you people at Nintendo Life are so flippin' quick on this stuff. >_>
Colours are awesome, but only being able to use one at a time is kind of annoying.

They probably don't want people to just stick with this when they release Flipnote studio 3D. which will probably be never.
Well to be honest, Swapnote is more of a communication tool to talk to your friends while Flipnote Studio is where you can show off what you can make with a stylus, same as Colors! 3D in some ways.
Also, I'm not sure where I heard it, I think it was Satoru Shibata in a Nintendo Direct saying that Swapnote was an evolution from Flipnote Studio... but I just can't remember where I read or heard it. :/
