The Mysterious Murasame Castle was an NES game released only in Japan. Its references in the West were very limited, but some might recall Takamaru's Ninja Castle, a minigame from Nintendo Land. That game is based on Murasame Castle. What's interesting is that the game was released on the 3DS VC in May in Europe; it has been announced that it will release in North America on August 7.
So what does that mean for Mother? Great question. Although Murasame Castle was referenced in Nintendo Land, it's a little shocking to see Nintendo release an extremely obscure game onto the VC. It's safe to say that there few people, if any, clamoring for Murasame Castle's release.
Mother is different, though. People do want an official release of this game, especially with the growing interest in Earthbound. And here's the best part: the game is already localized!
It all comes down to this: if Nintendo can take a risk and release The Mysterious Murasame Castle onto the 3DS VC with having no previous release in the West, there is absolutely no reason for Nintendo to not release Mother onto the VC as well.

Murasame doesn't require as much work to translate however, being it's an action NES game. A GBA text lengthy RPG would take much more resources to produce. However, Mother sees such a demand that perhaps the work would pay off immensely...
Heh, unless Nintendo is #A allowing the free fan translation on the internet to go through or #B paying a company to do the translation for them. Ain't happening. Edit. For mother 3.
Didn't the Nes one had a couple of game breaking glitches?

Let's make it happen, Nintendo.
you could say the same about summer carnival reca which released over a year ago but didn't bring earth bound zero. that's what it will be called if it ever makes it.
Yes, I am talking about Mother 1, or Earthbound Zero. The game was completely localized and translated, but not released. Only a few dialogue changes need to be made and the game is ready for release.
EDIT: I changed the name of the thread to Mother 1 to clear up confusion. Although, I thought it was pretty clear with Mother being the NES game and Mother 3 being the GBA game.

Lots of games have that.
But if you're talking about the bread crumb glitch, I read that was only in the Famicom version and the GBA and the NES prototype fixed it.

Well, as he been mentioned Nintendo's had Mother 1 translated since 1991 but they just never released it.
They'd still have to go over it, checking for glitches, etc.
Plus, I'm still convinced no one would actually like Mother 1 unless they just like really archaic RPGs. Even the easy patch had an enormous amount of grinding...
No. I don't see a connection nor hint of a Mother 1 arrival.
Connection: Game being released on VC that's never been released before, could indicate more openness towards releasing other never-before-released games.
Hint: No hint. I never said there was a hint. Otherwise, people will be all over it like Smash Bros. leaks.
After all, these are just my thoughts. Did I fail to hand out the salt?

always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)

Probably no more than any other game. According to the localization writer, that prototype was literally the final code (so whatever glitches are left in the game is what Nintendo would've originally shipped the game with). If I remember they even the manual done (which would've contained a walkthrough for half the game), so likely the box as well (how long does that take in comparison?)
