Hi, I am new Here and a friend gave me his old 3ds. Can i buy any Micro SD and Download Games from the eshop and also save the Files there ? So when this old thing breaks i just log in with my Nintendo Account and put the SD card in any new console to be ready ??
Regarding the micro-sd card there is no issue, just insert it in the 3DS, with the adapter if it's the old model, and it will work to download the games (actually some cards may not work out of the box, but a quick formatting at the pc should solve the issue).
The only problem is that you can't just log on a different console if you want to transfer your account.
If you want your account on a new console you'll need to use the old 3DS to transfer your account datas to the new one (so I really recommand to not wait for the old model to completly break).
Once the transfer is done however you can indeed just pop the SD in the new console and it will work.

go on Nintendo.com to look up 3ds micro sd card requirements. I think there is a limit to how big the sd card can be. Since the 3ds came out bigger cards have gotten much cheaper. I'll go look now and enter what i find here with an edit

New 3ds xl can run 2GB - 32GB micro sd cards. I can't find directions on Nintendo's support for some reason. I looked in the New 3DS XL paper manual pg 24. You can view our DL the manual in the link below.
Just remember @Lappitoppi DO NOT buy MicroSD cards off Ebay, Mercari. Etsy, Amazon ect. ect. According to Sandisk the #1 seller of MicroSD's over 50% are fake on these sites. Your best bet is to buy from a respectable brick and mortar place. I use Best Buy and have them Price match Amazon. But i'm sorry to say i don't know to much about Germany's stores so just be careful when buying.
