The Factor 5 producers are big fans of Metroid, so it is no wonder that someone might think that Turrican and Metroid look very similar. I know it because Factor 5's president Julian Eggebrecht worked a very long time for the german Total! magazin and he said more than once in the magazin that his team was thinking of metroid while developing Turrican.
