As Inklings and Octolings around the globe look forward to the release of Splatoon 3, it seems Nintendo is just as busy winding down the services and goodies that shipped alongside Splatoon 2, when it was originally released.
This includes the exclusive Switch Online Splatoon 2 gear. As you might recall, if you signed up to the NSO service on a single or family subscription for 12 months, you would unlock an 'Online Jersey' and 'Online Squidkid V Shoes' here in the west.
Over in Japan, it's been announced this exclusive gear will be discontinued on 31st August 2022. And the deadline for exchanging the code for this gear is 31st December 2022.
At the moment, it seems this is a deadline for Splatoon 2 and Switch Online players located in Japan. If we hear any developments locally, we'll be sure to let you know.

Since when did they give the codes out Lmao?
@EliSweetG Open the NSO icon on your switch home screen, then select Special Offers. In there you'll see a tile for that Splatoon 2 gear. I think you can get redeem codes from there. Otherwise, maybe nintendo support can help.
No great loss. Something as inconsequential as this is still not enough to make me want to pay for NSO.
I’m still holding out for a complete physical release like the one Japan got. I imported BotW, but Splatoon 2 is sadly Japanese only.
I also intend to pass on Splatoon 3 until such a release arises (and fortunately, Splatoon 3 should be the same version internationally) considering the abundance of inevitable patches and DLC. I intend to grab the amiibo and the Pro Controller though.
It seems like a way to scare Splatton 2 players...like...."do you see? The game will be more and more limited for you. Do you know why? Because we want to force you, by all means, to buy Splatoon 3".
But... to me this sounds more like: "why invest in a game that can be discontinued by Nintendo and I lose 90% of its content? (because there are no bots to play offline) Better to play Rocket League, for over 10 years on the market and with the online booming (100 million people and growing)...and no company forces me to pay more, just because they've decided that I must pay again to have pretty much the same. Without giving me a choice.
@Rykdrew I don't really know what you are getting at? There haven't been content updates for Splatoon 2 in a long time. The last Splatfest was in 2019. But I am 100% sure they will not shut down the servers anytime soon. So they are not forcing you to do anything.
@Rykdrew This was jjst a free costume for having a paid membership. If you already redeemed it, you can still use it.
@Silly_G Splatoon 2 did get a physical release. I own it and play it often.
@twadebarcelona : I was talking about the physical release which includes the expansion pass on the cartridge that was released exclusively in Japan.
@Silly_G Most games don't get physical releases like that, so I don't know why you're expecting it like it's guaranteed to happen.
@twadebarcelona : I didn't say that it was guaranteed to happen; only that I won't buy Splatoon 3 until/if such a release surfaces.
@Silly_G Have fun not playing Splatoon 3 then. It's your loss.
@twadebarcelona : No hurry. I have plenty else to play in the meantime.
@countzero:
> The last Splatfest was in 2019.
It was meant to be the last, but they had four more after that during the pandemic (three in 2020 and one in 2021).
@Silly_G splatoon 3 is "supposed" to be the same worldwide this time, so no more exclusive japan only content. will be "waiting to see it to believe it" though.
@silverninja : Yes, I am aware of that. But like I said, I am in no hurry to pick up Splatoon 3 as I've barely scratched the surface of Splatoon 2 as it is, so I'm willing to wait for a possible complete release later on.
I also have a hunch that a complete edition of Splatoon 3 will be a launch title for the Switch's successor. Time will tell, of course.
@Rykdrew indeed, I’ll skip Splatoon 3.
@countzero
"The last Splatfest was in 2019"
It´s terrible.
We've had Rocket League events for 7 years!
That is, there is even less incentive to buy Splatoon 3, since these games are short-lived and expensive!
I'm sad for Splatoon 2 knowing that 3 is gonna kill off a lot of its player base and stuff like this is annoying too.
@Rykdrew Why are you comparing splatoon to rocket league?
