Following the success of The Pokémon Company's partnership with sumo wrestling tournaments last year, the collaboration is continuing, with The Pokémon Company sponsoring themed banners and kimonos.
You'll notice that the Pokémon featured are specifically those from Sinnoh, referencing the recent release of Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, as well as the ancient prequel, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, due out at the end of January.
There's a cute little trailer for the partnership, starring the incredibly cuddly sumo wrestling Pokémon Makuhita fighting/hugging a child, and former wrestler Kisenosato Yukata watching as Snorlax and Makuhita tough it out:
The sumo wrestling tournament is taking place from the 9th of January to the 23rd of January.

Disappointing to see Snorlax sumo without a mawashi. Have some shame, Snorlax!
That YouTube channel is also noted to contain more PokeToons installments, many of the later ones being of a quality on par with the Twilight Wings series! One of my favorite PokeToons is the one featuring Slugma.
I remember using a Makuhita and subsequently Hariyama when I played through Alpha Sapphire when I was younger and they absolutely rocked. So strong, so bulky and an actual good user of HM's so any acknowledgement from Pokemon themselves about it's greatness is highly appreciated by me.
Come to think of it, a Pokémon wrestling-inspired game could actually be pretty cool. Limit the character roster to Pokémon that could wrestle, have different character alignments, and you could have something that’s at least on par with 2k’s post 2k19 outings.
@JakedaArbok Kind of like a pseudo-sequel to Pokken perhaps?
@Fizza
Yeah, like maybe after all the chaos of the story events of Pokken, a more civilized league is formed, and Pokemon have to rise to the top to gain championship belts. Ohhhhhh that sounds so good!!!
Ah, Makuhita. One of my mains when I first played Emerald. A pretty (literally) solid choice for a tanky Pokemon very early in the game especially when evolved into Hariyama. I never actually used him again post Gen3.
@Fizza Makuhita and Hariyama have always been my favourite Pokémon from Gen 3 so I agree.
