The Metroidvania Narita Boy will be receiving a Limited Run Games physical release on the Nintendo Switch in the near future.
Pre-orders for standard physical versions will open later this week on 12th November for $39.99, from the Limited Run Games website. There'll also be a collector's edition for $74.99 - which includes a poster, a cassette soundtrack, a techno sword pin and a floppy disk...yes, a floppy disk!
When Narita Boy arrived on the Nintendo Switch eShop earlier this year, we said it was a "digital utopia" - awarding it eight out of ten stars in our Nintendo Life review:
"Narita Boy joins a plethora of entertainment franchises that pay homage to ‘80s culture. But where others have failed, Narita Boy transcends its inspiration with exceptional world building, a complex yet thoughtful narrative, and stunning combat gameplay. It occasionally feels a little too vague and abstract in its structure, and ultimately this holds it back from being a true masterpiece, but if you’re longing for a great Metroidvania title, then Narita Boy is absolutely what you’ve been waiting for."

I’ll be the first………… to admit that I totally forgot about this game. Being that I’m too impatient to order and wait for the physical edition, I’ll probably just go digital for this so I can finally try it and enjoy it sooner. 8/10 for any metroidvania is enough to tell me I’ll enjoy it.
This was huge bummer. I really liked the aesthetic, but everything is off. Really the definition of all style no substance.
Awesome game, enjoying it so far.
I'll grab this physical.
Love a good Metroidvania.
Just finished Feudal Alloy, really enjoyed it
Looking at the 'cover' art got me to hum some notes of the "Theme from Tron" (1982). I'll look into this deeper now, since I missed out on.
I’m an eighties kid and a geeky TRON fan so I’ve had Narita Boy watchlisted since I read NL’s review. I might just preorder the standard ed from LRG in hopes I’ll get around to playing it later…
But I’m still curious why he’s got the name of Japan’s biggest airport, and his chest emblem is literally the kanji character meaning “middle.” Then again, the Greatest American Hero had pretty much the same emblem on his suit (Believe it or Not! 😆 )
@Spiders I allllmost completely agree. I really wanted to love it. And it’s so close to being loveable for me. Just wanted a bit more, substance as you said. And as the review quote mentions, it’s a bit tooo vague. Still a cool piece of art. But not enough to keep my interest sadly.
I got it recently during the eShop sale, so I'm definitely not paying LRG's price this time around. That CE is really pushing it...$75 for a tape, a pin and a poster? Are they kidding?
Give me the tape alone for $10 and we'll talk...
@Liam_Doolan Thank you for clearly stating it's a Limited Run physical release it is much appreciated to go into these articles knowing it's not a general physical release (or getting hopes up for such).
I loved this game!
I loved this game but will be skipping this as I don't want to support scummy capitalist companies like Limited Run.
Buy a game case for $80 that you MIGHT get in 7 months!
