Something, something, it's almost double, no 3 times as much as PS4.
Anyway, okay numbers for Nintendo, especially considering it was up against a lot of releases for Sony.
What games are those new Switch owners buying? Switch is outselling PS4 three games to one but the top 10 is dominated by PS games. A bit odd, no?
Wow, 1-2-Switch !
Underdog games yet still on Top 20.
Let's play.... Telephone.
Hello ?
@Nintendofan83
Psst...
Some of Japanese gamers still consider 1-2-Switch.
Who'd a thunk that Japanese love portable gaming machines?
@Nintendofan83 It's not particularly odd. The PS4 is more established and those top selling games are exceeding the sales of the Switch. The Switch game purchases are probably being spread amongst the back log with Kirby being the latest release seeing the bunt of that. 8 of the top 20 are Switch games, so there's a strong showing over a spread of titles, some year+ old titles at this point.
1-2 Switch making the top 20 in any region is astounding.
@Nintendofan83 I'm no analyst but it looks like some bought Zelda. Some bought Mario. Some bought Splatoon.
The Switch is going great around here and that’s good not only for Nintendo but for the gaming industry as a whole. Competition is always good for the end user.
I, myself, am starting to feel the pull of Kratos and I’m starting to look around the PS4 area of gaming shops more than I’ve done in four years... I might cave in and end up buying a PS4 if I find the chance.
its incredible that the Vita is still really doing the business over in Japan even getting into the top 3 sales chart this week
@Anti-Matter wut.
@GrailUK pretty much the only games worth getting, unless you have no other console whatsoever.
@gatorboi352 In that case which games would you recommend mate? I only have a Switch.
Look at FarCry go!... just love Ubisoft! Got to give it to the PS4 - it prints money for publishers in every market around the world.
That wait for VC4 is going to hurt. I have to make a note to pick up Hokuto...keep forgetting.
@Agramonte
Expect it will drop all the way down to the bottom half of the list next week and will vanish entirely the week after.
Yeap Japan loves Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 more so than Dragon Ball FighterZ.
@MrBlacky Probably - Japan for this game is just icing on the cake. I thought it would be lower half of the top 10 at best.
@gatorboi352 "wut"
His posts only make sense when read w/ Majin Buu's voice.
my question comes down to 'is the ps4 pro really worth it' for sony?
seems to me the base system is outselling it. for my mind i can't believe someone would buy the slow model since the pro isn't too much more for much better performance.
wonder how they'll fracture the base? MS seems to have a good idea how they're going to try and keep it all 'xbox' and no new 'generations' but sony hasn't said they're going that direction so i'd expect a ps5 from them cutting off the ps4 folks.
"Switch sold almost three times as many machines as PlayStation 4"
You mean less than twice as many... (25k vs 44k)
And yet Kirby still hasn't "fallen off a cliff". Even in the face of some big new PS4 titles. I'm curious as to how long it will hang around, the fact Zelda's still in the picture is also amazing as the Japanese are usually indifferent to the series. Perhaps it's because the art style is is more Japan-friendly?
@gatorboi352
"Who'd a thunk that Japanese love portable gaming machines?"
Not too many, considering how many people were on the "Switch is a Wii U/Gamecube 2.0" train (yourself included) during the first few months of its existence.
Anyways, great Switch and Kirby sales. Seems like Kirby will outsell 1-2 Switch and Arms within the next 2-3 weeks. Great Far Cry 5 launch sales too. Easily the fastest-selling Far Cry game in the series.
@rjejr I read them in Comic Book Guy in the Simpsons voice, it seems to fit perfectly somehow.
They sold twice as many as the combined PS4. Doesn't Sony count both SKU's as one? Can't be almost 3 times as much. Come on, now😕
@westman98 "Not too many, considering how many people were on the "Switch is a Wii U/Gamecube 2.0" train (yourself included) during the first few months of its existence."
That has nothing to do with my point, unless you're implying that by saying it's a Wii U 2.0 that it wasn't portable?
Nice try at a dig though.
@GrailUK wow, first off, I'm sorry. Seriously, you are missing out on fantastic gaming.
Secondly, feel free to have at the entire library as some of it, especially the 3rd party ports (albeit inferior versions of said games) are a part of this amazing library of gaming that has existed outside of nintendo's draconian business relationships for quite some time.
@gatorboi352
"Switch is Gamecube/Wii U 2.0" => Switch will sell like the Gamecube/Wii U
Which obviously isn't the case.
I thought JRPGs were more popular in Japan, yet the sales for Ni No Kuni 2 and Valkyria Chronicles 4 aren't very impressive. The more you know.
@gatorboi352 So recommend me something ya lummox. Quit being so down all the time. Out of the library what would you recommend. What have you played that you thought was amazing.
@gatorboi352 Why do you even visit this site?
Gotta love the weekly supply of salt these Japanese charts deliver.
But yeah, great to see Kirby still selling decent on its 3rd week on the market.
Wow I'm really surprised the Vita is up there. I did have one and really enjoyed my time with it, though Sony abandoning it with no new first party releases killed it for me - that's when I came over to Nintendo
@Nintendofan83 Not really, the PS4 has been out much longer, a lot more people already have one. But the Switch is still fresh for a lot of people here in Japan, and Splatoon 2 alone drives sales like none other. Pretty much all of my students who like gaming, want/have a Switch and want/have Splatoon 2.
It's important that the SWITCH does well there...so we can get as many Japanese developers on board...which means, more games for US to enjoy...^_^
@yuwarite @GrailUK The reason @gatorboi352 is on this site is because he's the epitome of the phrase "the zeal of the newly converted". He used to be a Nintendo-only gamer, but now that he has expanded his horizons he believes that he has seen the light, and not only has to let everyone know, but has to make sure that we know that we haven't seen the light. He's absolutely correct when he says you're missing some great games if the Switch is your only console (let's not let him fool us into allowing him to call it a handheld, because being dismissive is his purpose in doing so), but when he says that three or four Switch games are the only ones worth buying for multiplat owners, he reveals the arrogance required to believe that his tastes are what yours or mine should be.
@WiltonRoots Comic Book Guy in the Simpsons voice
That's a good voice for know it alls, I see him more as the high pitched confused child helium voice.
Actually know that I think about it gatorboi might work w/ the Simpsons comic book guy voice. I'll have to try that next time.
@Nintendofan83 I think part of it is that Nintendo is still riding the wave of good fortunes that came from the Switch's stellar first year. There's still probably a lot of people who haven't been able to get one during the holiday season.
I can imagine people being annoyed with Nintendo at the moment for it's upcoming release schedule with no heavy hitters, but it feels like this is a part of their strategy. Nintendo has been handling the Switch very well, so far. I think this period is the calm before the storm. I'm sure it's frustrating to see Sony still going strong, but Nintendo doesn't have the same level of support as Sony, but it's still doing great with what support they have.

"Kirby sales will fall off a cliff"
@rjejr Or even Cartman.
its again starting to look like, nintendo isn't capable to convince thirth party developers.
well you don't have to be a all-knowing oracle, why this is.
its going on for almost 2,5 decades.
it has something to do with limitations in specs, storage, the boundries they lay on gamers and developers.
yes they may shout, "we promise you more 3th party games" but in the meantime nobody at this foolish stuborn company realize that you got to give them great tools in order to let them make great new games, at least port games instead of downgrading their artwork. these guys are artists, artist hate boundries. give them the best tools they draw you a new masterpiece.
putting boundries in streaming and not letting people promote their products in twitch or youtube, wont win their nintendo hearts either.
but i don't interfere.
