The BAFTA Game Awards aren't far away, with comedian Dara O'Briain once again signed up to host the extravaganza on 7th April at Tobacco Dock, London. With plenty of awards up for grabs Nintendo will have a chance to walk away with a few prizes, though does miss out entirely in one key category.
Let's start with the good news - between them Super Mario Maker and Splatoon have been shortlisted for various awards, detailed below.
Family
- Disney Infinity 3.0
- FIFA 16
- Guitar Hero Live
- LEGO Dimensions
- Super Mario Maker
- Rocket League
Game Innovation
- Everybody's Gone To The Rapture
- Her Story
- Life is Strange
- Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
- Splatoon
- Until Dawn
Multiplayer
- Destiny: The Taken King
- Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime
- Rocket League
- Splatoon
- Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6 Seige
- World of Warships

The aforementioned surprise comes in the Mobile & Handheld category, which doesn't include any releases on 3DS.
We'll be following the awards to see if Super Mario Maker or Splatoon can pick up a win - which category do you think has the best odds of success for Nintendo?

The article is slightly incorrect. The absolute 100% guarantee of these 'awards' was that there was never- ever- going to be a 3DS nomination. In the eyes of the people who decide these 'awards' the 3DS doesn't exist. It hasn't got a single nomination for the past 3 years- including 2013 when Fire Emblem Awakening, Animal Crossing New Leaf, Pokemon X/Y, Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon among others were all shafted in favour of mobile ports/spin-offs of 'proper' console games.
In short, these awards are a joke. J-O-K-E. Suitable to being hosted by a comedian, they should not be taken seriously by anyone who knows this industry.
"3DS games miss out entirely." They always do. Even the amazing year of 2013 didn't get any nominations.
*EDIT: Oh, beaten to it.
It's impossible to take these awards seriously if they continue to, literally, pretend that Nintendo 3DS does not exist. I don't care what sort of gamer you, that little machine has some INCREDIBLE games, more than worthy of not just nominations but wins.
Bundling Mobile and Handheld together is always one of the more stupid things to come out of these various game awards.
Splatoon! Yay! But last year's 3DS lineup wasn't that great. THIS year, however...
It is ridiculous that there has been no 3ds nomination in the last few years but I have to say that I can't really think of a game that deserved one this time
@Vegaphil Agreed, it's only disappointing when games of merit are released. Remasters aside (which have rightly been dismissed as they already had their shot at the trophy cabinet), I can't think of anything on the 3DS last year which deserved an award. Glad the industry is recognising Splatoon and Mario Maker though.
@Vegaphil Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate?
It's normal the british industry want to ignore the handhelds. One of the leader of mobile gaming, King, is a british company. They have no reason to promote a competitor and would be happy if handhelds disappeared.
Also lol at MGS5 in game innovation. The Kojima cult is still going.
Nintendo games nominated in four categories; for context, out of how many categories in total?
Why don't handhelds have their own category? While the 3DS admittedly didn't have as many impressive releases in 2015 as in previous years, I still feel that games like MH4U and Steamworld Heist deserve a nod.
The real crime is Xenoblade X not getting nominated for anything
I'm kind of surprised Splatoon was not in the "Family" category as well. My kids can and do play that quite often. It is very much geared towards children and parents too. Ink On! Love me some Splatoon!
@Jamiehb Damn right.
I hope Splatoon wins multiplayer so it becomes the undeniable best shooter of the year.
@Vegaphil SteamWorld Heist. And Majora's Mask 3D if quality is allowed to trump the fact that it's a port.
