Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment: Every Playable Character & Unlock Requirements
How to Unlock New Characters
Some of the game's main playable fighters become available as the narrative progresses. So, you know, Princess Zelda, the Construct, Raaru and so on, are auto-unlocked as you progress.
There are, however, a whole bunch of extra fighters to unlock by taking on special Scouting Challenges. Scouting challenges can be found in the game's map screen under the challenges section.
The list of available missions here — there are eight in total — will update automatically as you progress across the world map and story.
Scouting Challenge Unlocks & Recommended Level
Here's a list of every Scouting Challenge and the level you should be at to complete it.
- For Hyrule - Level 19 (Unlocks Quino)
- A Veteran's Return - Level 22 (Unlocks Lago)
- The Strength To Protect - Level 33 (Unlocks Cadlan)
- The Gourmand Goron - Level 36 (Unlocks Braton)
- A Lone Wolf's Pride - Level 38 (Unlocks Pastos)

All Playable Characters - Full List
And here is the full list of all playable fighters for your perusal, in alphabetical order.
Ardi (Gerudo Sage)

A kind-hearted warrior who unites the Gerudo tribe. She obeys the tribe leader Ganondorf under the Gerudo tribe’s code.
Argraston (Goron Sage)

The leader of the Goron tribe. He is intelligent and generous. He has known Rauru for a long time and is a close friend.
Braton

How to unlock: Complete 'The Gourmand Goron' Scouting Challenge
A young Goron warrior who rocks a mighty sledge and is useful with his blinding thrust and leaping headbutt attacks
Cadlan

How to unlock: Complete 'The Strength To Protect' Scounting Challenge
This warrior excels with a Zora spear and can perform turbulent flurry and wheeling crash attacks for elemental damage.
Calamo

Calamo is "a boisterous Korok wandering Hyrule in search of a place to put down roots."
Lago

How to unlock: Complete 'A Veteran's Return' Scouting Challenge
Another eager Zoran fighting machine, Lago wields a Zora sword and utilises Heaventide Slash and Reversal Wave techniques.
Mineru (Sage of Spirit)

Mineru is another confirmed character, and in trailers the Sage of Spirit can be seen flinging contraptions around the battlefield, so expect plenty of inventiveness, tricks and traps out of this one, perhaps.
Mysterious Construct / Knight Construct

This character, who does look sort of familiar, it has to be said, remains a complete mystery beyond the brief description from Nintendo that they are "a new ally" and someone "who can transform and take to the skies." How very interesting.
Pastos

How to unlock: Complete 'A Lone Wolf's Pride' Scouting Challenge
This great big burly grandpa-looking hard lad loves to smash stuff up with his Cobble Crusher, and his thrust and plow attacks are great for sending large groups of enemies flying.
Pinnec

How to unlock: Complete 'The Unsung Spearman' Scouting Challenge
Pinnec's Feathered spear and Vehement Charge attacks make him a quick and useful ranged attacker.
Princess Zelda

The most obvious one. Princess Zelda, in all of the trailers we've seen thus far, has shown herself to be much more high-octane this time out, mostly because she's got her own Legend of Zelda version of a lightsaber to fight with.
Qia (Zora Sage)

A Zora princess skilled in martial arts, her bravery in battle inspires the people she leads.
Queen Sonia
A pivotal character, Sonia is shown in the trailer below briefly, and plays a crucial role in the game.
Quino

How to unlock: Complete 'For Hyrule' Scouting Challenge
Quino is eager to get involved and is best kept with his Soldier's Claymore, to go alongside his Hurling Slash and Defensive Charge signature moves.
Raphica (Rito Sage)

The leader of the Rito tribe and a resourceful warrior. His words and actions are often difficult to understand, but deep down he cares for his friends and is loyal.
Rauru (Sage of Light)

The Sage of Light, what we've seen of Rauru in battle thus far has been all about huge beams of spectacular light (obviously), and he also looks absolutely massive on the field of battle. A potential powerhouse, we reckon.
Ronza

How to unlock: Complete 'In Search Of Power' Scouting Challenge
A tough Gerudo cookie with a huge claymore and devastating leap and slash attacks within her arsenal.
Sholani

How to unlock: Complete 'Standing On Principle' Scouting Challenge
Very similar to Ronza, Sholani uprises a scimitar rather than the heft of a claymore, so she's quicker, as her dance and whirlwind-based specials display!
Typhan

With his cool hair, massive shield and broadsword, Typhan is a tough lad to knock down, and he excels in shield rush and bash attacks. Oh, and he'll also cut you down with a surprise Leaping Slice if you're not careful.
Vence

Vence uses his Feathered Edge sword, Windmill Cutter and Spiral Impact techniques for some quite balletic (and ferocious) attack displays.
Other Characters (Non-Playable)
Ganondorf
Is Ganondorf playable in Age of Imprisonment? Unfortunately not - at least we don't think so. We're still playing to complete every last quest and challenge.
But playable or not, he's big, bad, and back to cause trouble (and look sultry in some beefy key art).
Lenalia (Zelda's handmaiden)
Zelda’s maid. Though she has a gentle personality, Lenalia is quick at her work, and is trusted by Rauru. She has a strong curiosity about the mystical and is always seen carrying her record book.
How many playable characters are there in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity?
