regarding HD, it's not so much the enhanced graphics now, it's meeting a new industry standard (in terms of televisions). they'd be fools to attempt to ignore the fact that you just can't buy new SDTVs anymore, and people want to be able to see their Wii games as crisp and clear as their Xbox/PS games.

Nintendo doesn't need to directly compete by adding unnecessary goodies.
And this was qute true while Wii was way cheaper than the competence, 90% of people wanting to buy a console had little idea about the capabilities of them, they just looked at the price and Wii won the fight. Problem is that this is not valid anymore. Now, can N release a new replacement for the Wii cheaper than the competence and also with similar capabilities, which would mean to release something way more powerfull than the Wii but at the same price as current Wii. If the answer is no, the at least N would be able to release something more expensive than the Wii (so more expensive than XBoX, etc), but with as many new goodies as possible.
@Mandoble: The fact is that the Wii is still selling well regardless of how you may think it stacks up against the other two systems, therefore they have no incentive to replace the Wii with anything at this time or lower the price.
