Topic: Virtual Console Prices: What should they be?

We all have an opinion, so why don't we talk about what prices the VC should be set at for both released and unreleased virtual consoles? The prices I give here are for the American dollar, feel free to talk about in your own currency as well.

Current Prices (generally)
-NES: $4.99 (Wii owners price: $1.00)
-SNES: $7.99 (Wii owners price: $1.50)
-N64: $9.99 (unreleased on Wii U, but anticipated to be $9.99)
-GameBoy: $3.99
-GameBoy Color: $5.99

The following are my guesses for virtual consoles not yet released.
-N64 (Wii owners price): $2.00
-GameBoy Advance: $8.99 (original guess: $11.99)
-GameCube: $14.99
-Nintendo DS: $11.99 (original guess: $13.99)

Of course, there could be others as well, but I gave estimates for the confirmed (and most anticipated) virtual consoles. Do you agree with me?

Not to be stingy, but why should GBA games cost $4 more than SNES games? I think it should be $9 at most...

Hmmm...you're right. I think that was a little high. I was thinking that GBA games was during the GCN era and I based my price off of that. I'll change it.

EDIT: I think I can bring the DS games down to $12 as well.

Anytime Nintendo releases a new virtual console game, they should have a half price sale for people who owned the game on the Wii, perhaps lasting a week. I think the upgrade price is a little steep.

After the 3DS distributed it's VC system, it had more varying prices rather than fixed. It would be likely that Nintendo went that same route with GBA.

How so? There have been times in the past where VC games deviated from the normal price, but the variance is still the same as it was when the Wii VC came out.

I go back to the GBC VC, and everything is usually $5 seems you're right in a sense. The only games that aren't are Toki Tori, Game and Watch Gallary 2 ($4) and the Zelda games ($6)
However, everything from the Gameboy line is either $3 or $4. It's fair to say that the Gameboy titles are varied.
The Console VC has it's price changes. But that's not due to content, but usually because it's an import title. (Except for Earthbound for some strange reason. Maybe that one is priced on it's content)

I think Game Boy Advance titles will be in the $5-$7 range
DS Titles might be in the $9-$12 range

Hmmmm....you're right. I guess I never noticed it because all the GB games I buy are $4 and GBC are $6. But there is some variances.

But GBA games will not be in the $5-$7, that's the same price of the GBC games!

Also, I think the reason Earthbound is more expensive is because it costs more to sell. All these licensing fees and such.

Why should third parties cost less than first party games? There are a lot of third party games just as good if not better than many of Nintendo's titles.

I understand more flexible price points, but to break it into different categories based on first or third parties is asinine.

EDIT: Those prices are also too low for my liking. When you buy a VC game, you also help pay for the coding and other services to help port the game. Also, it almost seems disrespectful in a way to have prices that low. It's not giving enough credit to the original developers. I disagree with how NES games are priced in some instances, but I am willing to pay $8 for an SNES game and $10 for a N64 game.

NES-$4.99
SNES-$7.99
N64-$9.99
GameCube-$14.99
Wii-$19.99
GameBoy-$3.99
GBC-$5.99
GBA-$7.99
DS-$9.99

That is what I think for Nintendo Platforms, not sure about others but basically add a dollar to the equivalent platform (like Sega Master System-$5.99 compared to NES-$4.99) mostly because it is probably harder for Nintendo to get the rights for those consoles.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

It should depend on the game. If a game is a rare download, it should cost in the triple digits.

Are they still on the Wii U?
I believe Recca and SMB The Lost Levels were the same price as other NES games on 3DS.

I don't think there are import games on the Wii U eShop yet. But yes, you're right. Import games are the same price as domestic games on the 3DS.
