I am considering the rune factory frontier game. Its a WII game, will it work on the WIi U gamepad? or the pro controller? or do I have to buy some Wii equipment for it (which I wasnt really planning on)...

If it's a Wii game, then only Wii controllers work.

Making promise is easy. The hard part is keeping it.

It will suffice for every Wii game you can think of. The only exceptions are certain Virtual Console games in the download shop, which might require a Classic Controller - but all Wii games on disc work with the WiiMotion Plus.

Just tell me one thing:

If I buy the Wii Remote Plus Additional Set, will that be sufficient for all kinds of games? or will I need something else?

You don't need another sensor bar if you already have a Wii U, but the Wii Mote+Nunchuck will allow you to play any Wii game (I don't know of any that don't support it, and I KNOW Rune Factory Frontier supports it because that's what I used ). Just keep in mind that a lot of Wii Virtual Console games require a Wii Pro Controller (Wii U Pro isn't supported).

And if you did get RFF I hope you enjoy it. It's one of my personal favorites, actually. I've yet to play a life/farm sim I've liked as much as that game.

Actually I dont have a sensor bar, got the basic WIi U. Funny thing, however, is that I wasnt actually planning on using backwards compatibility and play wii games. Rune factory was the first title that made me rethink and now I am beginning to see on how many titles I might have been missing out...

BTW do you still need to connect the WIi U for an internet update? - I dont have a stable connection at home... The mario kart 8 disc performed an update when I put it in, should be quite a recent one...

Internet updates are, of course, online only. Amiibo support for MK8 is one of those things that need you to have a connection: to update the OS to a newer one than you probably got with MK8, and to update MK8 itself.

Also, the gamepad functions as a sensor bar itself, so since you can't use it when playing Wii games, you might just as well set it in front of you TV when you play Wii games.

WHat I actually meant, is do you need to update the Wii U via internet in order to make playing wii games even possible?

As of now I havent connected it yet, I wanted to do it at a friends house, but then I realized I would have needed a wireless connection, that seemed to much of a hassle, and buying a Lan adapter for the Wii U just to perform the update seemed a little bit expensive and unnecessary at the time.

Now that I am planning on getting into the old Wii games as well, I am not sure If I wont have to do it.

As of now I can see a wii icon in the wii u menu. After clicking it it prompted me to sync a wii remote with the wii u, which I dont have yet.

Mario Kart 8 (after inserting it for the first time) performed a system update, I was just curious if that update enough already to make wii games playable or if I have to get online anyway (which again, will be bothersome for me, and I would like to know before to plan ahead).

Yes, I know, not having a stable and fast internet connection is kinda rare these day but still thats the boat I am sitting in.

Wii U can play Wii games without any updates.
