Even though the Switch successor is on the horizon, games will continue to be released on the OG Switch for at least another couple or few years. For me, 2025 will be wall-to-wall rpgs. Can you imagine attempting to get after all of this somewhere between Path of Exile 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds? Lawd have mercy.
Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time
I thoroughly enjoyed the first game back on the the 3DS. Diablo-like combat, Final Fantasy XIV-like crafting and gear progression, and now they're adding Animal Crossing town alteration / management. Scheduled for an April release and is easily my most anticipated release next year.
Suikoden I & II Remastered
Back in the PS1 days, rpg fans were all waiting for the release of FFVII. Not only did Suikoden fill in that gap while waiting for FFVII, I personally feel Suikoden is a better game. Don't grab your torches and pitchforks. Clearly FFVII is the more lauded game. I'm just saying, do not disregard Suikoden as just another 16-bit rpg.
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Long time coming. The saga will be complete. Although it would be nice if Square-Enix remastered Xenogears for current consoles. But that's probably too much of an ask.
Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist and the Land of Phantasmagoria
Three know-to-be excellent rpgs and this all in the first few weeks of March? Talk about cramped. The Atelier series is the coziest series of rpgs. I buy every release on general principle, support for Koei Temco's best series of games not named Dynasty Warriors.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky 1st
The same could be said of The Legend of Heroes. A known commodity, each release usually ranging from great to excellent. A series where every entry is a collective of the same story, told within the same universe, but from different perspectives.

Tales of Graces F

Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered - I've been wanting The Last Revelation and Chronicles on Nintendo hardware since the GCN era (they're 2 of my favourite games) and in February it's finally happening. I'm also intrigued by whether the problems with Angel of Darkness get fixed.
XCX Definitive Edition - Barely got past the character creator on Wii U but when I considered returning after really enjoying XC2, I came to the conclusion I'd be better off waiting for a Switch version as Nintendo kept releasing their Wii U catalog for Switch. Can't say I expected it to take 7 more years for a Switch version to happen but waiting still paid off in the end.
DKC Returns HD - Excited to replay the game on the big screen with normal controls. Motion controls can really enhance a game's experience like Metroid Prime Trilogy but it didn't with Returns.
Metroid Prime 4 - A new mainline Metroid Prime game for the first time in over 15 years is exciting.
The Plucky Squire - It's already out digitally on Switch but I'm waiting for the physical version which releases in February.
On a side note, it's cool that Legends Z-A is returning to Kalos but we haven't seen gameplay yet and I'm cautious after how Scarlet/Violet turned out. Hopefully not being forced to release something in 2024 results in a polished game.
I've only gotten 2 2024 games so far, and there are currently no 2025 games I am considering getting at the moment. I bet there will be something announced within the next few months, and I really hope so because I have an extra Switch Voucher waiting for a new game XD
@Magician
Well really only, metroid prime 4 beyond.
And maybe as mentioned by @Grumblevolcano
Timb raider 4 and 6 remastered
DKC returns HD
Any maybe Nintendo will surprise us with some brilliant new, or franchise games.😀👍
A new 3D Mario game makes sense. But considering the success of Animal Crossing, I would much prefer a new AC game at the launch of the Switch successor. Especially considering we just got Wonder last year. No matter how you slice it, Nintendo EPD have their hands in a lot of places.
There's no concrete answer to what they could be working on.
StarFox... please Nintendo, a decent effort at dragging this franchise into a 'new era'.
Something similar to the Ubisoft "Starlink: Battle for Atlus", albeit with a smoother Nintendo sheen and better moment-to-moment gameplay. Take SF64, and splice in the best parts of Starlink
@Novamii I'd also love to see what the next 3D Mario game will be like! I'm a bit surprised that Nintendo hasn't made an Odyssey sequel by now, haha. I'd love something along the lines of that, or even a 3D World successor. But I think it would make more sense to make a sandbox-styled 3D Mario platformer for the Switch 2 first.
@Magician I'd also love a new Animal Crossing game! I've pretty much gotten my fill of New Horizons, I just wanna do more of Happy Home Paradise sometime. Other than that, I'm all ready for a new game.
"Give yourself the gift of being joyfully you."
Favorite game: Super Mario 3D World
AKA MarioVillager92. Ask if you want to be Switch friends with me, but I want to get to know you first. Thanks! ❤️
Xenoblade Chronicles X - I'm excited to see this game get a second chance. It was one of the hidden gems on the Wii U and, although it's a bit different from the subsequent games in the series, it's well worth a look if you're a fan of those. A Xenogears remake would be nice too, but Square Enix have been sitting on it for a long time. There's probably a better chance of Xenosaga, given how Baten Kaitos was remastered last year, but I won't be waiting up.
Metroid Prime 4 - It's been a long wait and I'm actually surprised that it's coming to the Switch rather than its successor. Given the quality of the MP1 remaster though, we know that they've got a terrific game engine to run it on; it's just a question of game design from here on.
Professor Layton and the New Age of Steam - Another return after a long gap. Things are bound to be a bit different with a new puzzle designer at the helm, after the passing of Akira Tago, but I'm still confident because I don't think that they'd want to bring back the mainline series for anything that wouldn't do him justice.
Civilization VII - I've played a lot of Civ VI on the Switch, so I'm looking forward to the sequel. My only concerns are whether it's going to have good enough performance on the original Switch hardware and whether it'll get an automatic bump when the Switch 2 comes along. Maybe I'll buy on PC first and double dip later when there's a sale on.
The only thing I'm sure of is that I'll buy Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
Metroid Prime 4 is in the "maybe" category, Nintendo hasn't even said if it will be released in my language yet.
I'll use 2025 to buy Switch games from previous years that I'm still interested in, from Nintendo and some third-party developers.
In 2026 I want to focus on the next console.
I'm not really excitedly waiting for anything besides Switch 2, but I suppose Pokemon Legends Z-A is the one 2025 game I'm already planning to buy. There's a good chance I'll decide to get fantasy life i as well, but definitely waiting on reviews for that one. Atelier Yumia looks somewhat interesting. Not too much announced yet for 2025 overall so not much I'm anticipating.
Professor Layton and Pokemon Legends are the big ones for me. Decapolice looks interesting too. I've yet to play the first three Metroid Primes which is why Prime 4 is not on my radar at the moment, but I'm glad it's finally coming out.
Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music
@Bolt_Strike Plus 2 ports! 😀 Xenoblade X is unironically most anticipated for surprisingly many people. Personally out if those 4 I will probably only get Pokemon. I'm guessing there will be even more ports coming for Switch 1 next year...
@Bolt_Strike Finally someone saying it. The Switch's lineup of releases is honestly starting to become pathetic. Third party support is an absolute joke. At least we're still getting some decent first party stuff, but we need the switch 2 BADLY.
I think I'm mostly just excited for the prospect of the Switch 2 and the games that will come to it its launch year. I'm hopeful we'll get to see 2025 releases like Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on there, hopefully running at 60fps, as well as previously released stuff like Hi-Fi Rush and Humanity. And of course Nintendo will probably be firing on all cylinders to give the successor a great lineup of exclusives in its first year.
With that being said, I'm interested in every first-party release currently on the docket, with Xenoblade X being the only one I can't say I'm 100% getting (for Donkey Kong, though, it happens to release right before my birthday, making it an ideal game to ask for). Additionally, both Fantasy Life i and Professor Layton and the New World of Steam have my attention, as far as games currently slated to be Switch exclusives go.
Shadow Labyrinth definitely has my attention, and I'm vaguely interested in the Trails of the Sky The 1st remake, but there's not a whole lot of third-party releases I'm really eyeing at this point. I suppose The Eternal Life of Goldman would count, though, since that has THQNordic's backing.
As for indies, BattleBlock Theater's coming to new platforms, and I'm sure Switch will be among them. I'm also eyeing LunarLux (which is apparently expected to launch in February/March), MainFrames, and MIO: Memories in Orbit. Maybe The Big Catch (haven't tried the Tacklebox just yet) and Biomorph. I backed Lucid and Poglings on Kickstarter, and both may surface on Switch next year, though Lucid's targeting late 2025 and Poglings is essentially on ice because the original development team couldn't see the projec tthrough to completion. Laika: Aged Through Blood may still get its Switch launch next year as well. I'm also still hoping to see Jumphobia Homeward Bound, which is supposedly still coming - that's a particularly niche one, though, which can be traced back to what I played during lunch in middle school on Coolmath, haha.
Xenoblade Chronicles X DE
Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza
Avowed
Doom: The Dark Ages
Mafia The Old Country
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
It's not a big exciting list. But these games will keep me entertained in 2025.
