A couple days ago I got a physical copy of Breath of the Wild to have a first game on the Switch which I would get later once in stock. However, the first thing I noticed was that the metal connectors on the back of the cartridge were greatly exposed, and I accidentally touched them firmly with my greasy fingers when removing it from the case. I hear a lot about damage caused by skin oils on other electronic connectors like RAM sticks, do you think the same can happen to the cartridge? I also don't have the Switch yet so I can't tell if it would still work or not. Have you ever done any major damage to the cartridge that it malfunctioned? Or am I worrying about nothing and should be assured that a switch cartridge is durable?
@CobraNorovia I'm no expert, but it wouldn't be a very wise design choice to use media that couldn't survive brief contact with fingers. Don't scratch/dent them or let them get wet for any length of time and they should last many years.
That's not to say you shouldn't try and avoid touching the contacts, as best practice, but yours should be fine.
Anyway, you've done it now, so what's the use in worrying about it?
