Topic: Groups (definitely not directories)

I've now made 48 groups to organize my 200+ games. I'm using them as tags (platformer, rpg, etc), ratings (e.g. a 9-10 directory), play organization (unplayed, 100%, will return, etc.), a counter for how many games I have (since I have too many), and a sometimes-empty often renamed group I use as a temporary note/reminder (e.g 'sort these games').

I'm curious how everyone else is using groups.

Questions:

  • Does anyone know if the groups are cloud-saved? Since it's Nintendo I'm guessing maybe not but it would be really nice not to have to re-create all my cross-listed game groups if I got a new Switch.
  • Groups has given me a much better understanding of my backlog, even discovering some games I didn't know I had. Now that I can clearly mark games I haven't finished yet, I wonder if I will play those more and buy fewer new games. On the other hand I now weirdly want at least 3 games per tag to make the groups attractive so maybe I'll buy games I wouldn't have before. Does anyone else think groups could affect their buying or playing habits?

Wishes:

  • If only you could click (+) on a game and see what groups it is in. Sadly, this tag-like feature seems very unlikely to ever be added given the UI separation of groups.
  • It seems absurd, but I would actually like the 100 groups/ 200 games per groups to be slightly higher. Game organization was so limited before that I just want to use the groups for everything and can imagine running out someday even aside from counting more than 200 games.

Those are only groups not cloud saves to do that you need a NSO subscription and to turn on each game cloud save feature to save.

A system transfer only sends user-specific save data to the target console, not your game icons (whose cartridges will need to be inserted individually [and software updates downloaded from scratch], and any digital purchases redownloaded from the eShop), so, no, groups won't make the transition to a new console.

Like Mii characters, Wi-Fi settings and the like, they are tied to your console, not your NNID, so, any extraneous things like that will need to be transferred, recreated, or otherwise set up manually.
