Hello dear members, wanted to have your opinion of what you think I should have as a FPS on Switch considering there’s no Call of Duty on the horizon 😒

Why Doom of course - a great collector game that is a must play to show off the system.

The PSVR is the best VR system on the market today.

JokerCK

Bioshock of course.

Doom 2016 is great. Bioshock is a great game, but the Switch port suffers from crashes that could corrupt your save file. I'm unsure if that has since been patched out or not? After that, the Metro double pack is a stellar port.

Switch Physical Collection - 1,251 games (as of April 24th, 2024)

Any decent online multiplayer FPS games on Switch with active communities? I may get myself a gift for Christmas if so

The only online shooter I play on the Switch is Splatoon 2. Even though it's a 3rd person shooter, I think it functions more like a FPS. I was highly skeptical of Splatoon 2, but it easily became my most played game on my Switch.

At this point I just think it’s bizarre that the switch hasn’t got at least one COD. Would be like shooting fish in a barrel getting sales for that, it would have no direct competition really. Nearly 70 million switches out there and no COD.

@faint yeah you’re probably right, must have stung a bit. I imagine they will come around in the end though. Surely there is some money to be made from a COD on the switch as it’s no Wii u 😂 business usually follows money

@WoomyNNYes I totally agree with you regarding Splatoon 2! Also became one of my most played games and especially online. Can’t stop playing it.
Also considering Crisis, some reviews are not liking the alien part though 🤔. Other than that, excellent graphics and looks close to COD.

@Bevinator they could have at least made the COD Modern Warfare remastered for the Switch as well

The absence of COD on Switch is confusing considering Activision's support of the Switch has been otherwise strong. Crash Trilogy, CTR, Skylanders, Diablo III, Spyro Trilogy. Sure the Switch probably couldn't handle Warzone well. But why not port CoD: Mobile to Switch?

I assume Nintendo probably wants a bigger chunk of mtx revenue than Activision are willing to accept.

DOOM and Wolfenstein II easily. However this is assuming you just have a Switch as your only platform because if you own a PS4, Xbox One or a PC I'd strongly recommend any of those other versions over the Switch version. The downgrades made to resolution and framerate are just way to noticeable for me that it kind of sacrifices the art direction and visual fidelity those games were known for having, especially in the case of Wolfenstein.

@Magician I'd guess it's to do with perception about what the Switch audience plays. I recall something about Blizzard acting separately from Activision. Given this, look at the age ratings for Switch support:

Activision

  • Skylanders - E10+
  • Crash Trilogy - E10+
  • CTR - E10+
  • Spyro Trilogy - E10+

Blizzard

  • Diablo 3 - M
  • Overwatch - T

So Activision probably still has the "Nintendo system owners don't play mature games" mindset.

@Grumblevolcano

Sounds like a misconception considering Wii U received ports of Ghosts and BlOps II.

@Magician Well if you look at what Activision has actually put out on the Switch they're clearly under the mindset that a franchise like CoD doesn't really mesh with the Switch playing audience. The Switch just doesn't have as much of a draw for something like a competitive first person shooter compared to the stuff they have put out like Crash, Spyro and Skylanders. Blizzard seems to act autonomously from the rest of Activision though which is why the Switch got Diablo and Overwatch. Even looking at the M-rated titles on Switch, a lot of them are single-player focused, narrative driven action-adventure titles like Witcher, Skyrim, Bayonetta and even more recently with No More Heroes. There really aren't that many mainstream multiplayer-focused FPS games by comparison.

That and I doubt the new games could even run remotely well on Switch without majorly significant sacrifices. The only reason Ghosts and BO 2 came to Wii U was because that console was slightly more powerful than the last gen systems at the time. When they started specifically developing for next gen, the games got way too ambitious for Nintendo's platforms to handle. Plus said games likely sold way worse on Wii U anyway

Getting positive reviews of Doom 3 as well; does it surpass Crysis considering some of the other ports are having crashing issues on Switch (Bioshock and maybe Portal)?

@Magician Those games flopping probably caused the mindset.

Yup, The Wii U accounted for less than 1% of Ghosts total sales.
