Played the og on switch 2 earlier this year and it was fun, platinum games have been completely silent about switch 2 until this interview with shiftup (stellar blade)

Platinum games did mention the bayonetta series could utilise the power of the switch 2 so it seems likely we will get a game from that series on switch 2 first, this does give me some hope we might get something astral chain related.

both directors had a private conversation after this interview:

I think there's a good chance it'll happen at some point. It sold well and I remember the director saying he had ideas for potential sequels, though he doesn't work for Platinum any more so who knows.

@Dogorilla the game sold over 1.33 million units so it is a commercially successful game although it has been more than 7 years since the original came out I just hope Nintendo and platinum haven't forgotten about the game

I would've thought Astral Chain 2 would've happened by now, but PlatinumGames has fallen into turmoil because most of the talent there had a falling out with leadership so that's thrown the IP's future into question. I do think it will eventually get a sequel, but it's hard to say when that will happen because we don't know who's making it.

I hope so. Astral Chain was mostly a delight, and could've joined Wonderful 101 and Nier:Automata as peak Platinum for me if the story was...worth having thoughts on and if the scoring system wasn't comically broken.

Honestly its amusingly fitting that Wonderful 101 and Astral Chain feel like they have the most like Nintendo like direction for the gameplay. The former being closer to a type of "each button does a cool unique thing" type of gameplay that feels closer to a lot of Nintendo's games, much more than the typical button combination centric gameplay, while Astral Chain added a lot of non-combat variety beyond being purely an action title 100% of the time that also feels a little more in line with the vague "action adventure" genre that I associate with Zelda and Metroid Prime and whatnot.

Non-binary, demiguy, making LPs, still alive

Anyone who finished astral chain knows that that end game was half baked and the game leaves major parts of the plot unresolved,

When I played the game I enjoyed 90% of the game but the ending just felt confusing,
the story ended on a cliffhanger which we currently don't know the answer for, I really hope its not a xenoblade x situation where the cliffhanger was left unanswered for 10 years.

@XenobladeKisekiFan Again, who's making it? The big issue is Platinum isn't what they used to be and a lot of developers had a falling out with the company. If not for that I suspect we might already have a sequel already, but now they might need to find a new developer. And not having a reliable developer to make a new game can be a major reason why an IP goes dormant.

@Bolt_Strike in the article on my nintendo news they mentioned that shiftup's Kim had a private conversation with Inaba at platinum games after the interview, so I wonder if some development partnership may have been signed similar to anouther korean company, neowiz signing a deal with falcom to develop some of their ip properties.

If this is the case maybe shiftup could be the developer of astral chain 2

I would personally prefer monolith soft to take over development duties for astral chain but I'm unsure that would happen.

I bought that game physically and it wasn't a Hack'N Slash as I initially thought, which is why I was a little disappointed and set it aside for another time.

I’d like to read more into that private meeting, but one conversation is doing a fair bit of heavy lifting here. The first game clearly left room for another one. The awkward part is working out whether Astral Chain still makes sense without the same version of Platinum behind it. That may matter more than whether there’s demand.

I really loved this game. I've always been waiting for DLC or something. I always (and still do) hope for an "endless" mode and/or tower mode like they do in the DMC games. As much as I enjoyed burning through Olive's Cases, I think it would be really fun to have an endless mode where the waves get bigger and harder each round till you die. The gameplay is so fun and unique it would be a waste to never revisit it again.

This fire is burning and it's out of control. It's not a problem you can stop it's Rock and Roll!!!

Astral chain is a special game for different reasons: Takahisa Taura was the director for astral chain and Hideki Kamiya is supervisor,

Kamiya is know for creating the dmc series and Taura is known for Nier automata,

Astral chain is a fusion of both dmc and nier, stellar blade drew heavy inspiration from the nier series,

Its disappointing for astral chain fans that both men are now at new studios and a successor game will most likely have different supervisors.
