The above article says that for anyone who already owns the Switch 1 version of the game, a digital upgrade path is available.

I am very interested, depending on the price. If I don't get it this year, it will probably be next year.

Minecraft has always been very reasonably priced on Switch, so I wouldn't expect the upgrade path to involve big bucks. Hasn't it been free on other platforms?

@gcunit as far as i know, yes. but they said "For those of you who already own Minecraft on Nintendo Switch™, a digital upgrade path will be available for Nintendo Switch players. More details to follow."
from the wording, i think (though i surely hope not) the upgrade will be paid. i think if it was to be free, they would have said a free upgrade path instead of a digital upgrade path
