Switch 1 doesn't even have a lot of good OSTs, some franchises like Pokémon or Metroid are at their weakest here.

This is a wild take but not as baffling as the fact that no one bringing up Tears of the Kingdom's (or even BotW) OST when refuting it...
Agree with the Dread take though.

If you are out there Shed guy, I still appreciate your dedication to chaos/Helix and doubt the character assassinations being presented by the Dome Fossil cult.

Japanese anniversary of the Gamecube today so I'll predict Smash Melee and a slightly delayed Star Fox Adventures for two of the picks.

I'll throw out Metroid Samus Returns because that feels like the shed guy curve ball.

@squiddu-real No, don't kill him! He still has a chance to redeem himself. Garage Cat will forgive him if there is any music this week. Preferably Kirby Super Star Ultra and on Thursday, but anything will do.

Edit: Garage Cat has played Game Builder Garage for "3,250 hours or more". 470 of those were spent trying to recreate pong. She has also spent 5,464 hours in RPG Maker 2003, and is actually good at using that. She has light-brown and black fur, blue eyes, and purrs when you pat her on the head and call her a good enby.

@AJWolfTill dome fossil cult...? and i'm sorry, the only notable song i recall from totk before i gave up was colgera, which is a banger, but don't be surprised that mostly ambient osts don't get brought up much.

I just met Garage Cat today, but if anything happened to them, I'd kill everyone in this forum, then Shed Guy, and then myself.

I disagree that the current Switch OSTs are bad — sure, some are sub-par, but the Splatoons, Marios, and Zeldas of that console had some bangers. Now, Shed Guy, about that ARMS soundtrack....

Ah, I didn't realize the GameCube's 25th JP birthday was this week! Was wondering why a bunch of GCN articles popped up on the site today lol. Changing my guesses in that case:

  • Majora
  • Metroid Prime 2
  • Mario Kart Double Dash

@LastFootnote
The two Paper Mario soundtracks are incredible, I won't dispute that. I also enjoy the OSTs for Forgotten Land, Rhythm Heaven Groove, and the MK8D DLC. Metroid Prime 4 is also good, but not on the level of the first two Primes. There are other good OSTs on the console, but a lot of them have caveats:

  • BotW, TotK, Legends Arceus, and Odyssey have excellent tracks that never play, a huge chunk of the time spent actually playing these games has you listening to ambience or nothing. Arceus is the worst offender with the "spotted" music; there's also the godawful Depths "music" in TotK that plays for like 30% of the game's runtime. Odyssey has the most solid OST out of these, I just wish it dipped out less often.
  • Smash Ultimate's massive 1,000+ OST obviously has a lot of bangers, even discounting straight rips from past games. However, I find that the new remixes are massively hit-or-miss - only like 30% of these tracks are actually good.
  • I agree with what @UpsideDownRowlet says about the Pokémon OSTs generally being really good, but not as good as past games. I also agree that Scarlet/Violet doesn't get good until the endgame and DLC, but when it's gets good it slaps. (I disagree about Z-A though, I didn't like that soundtrack very much. It has bangers but they're all one-off themes, it otherwise overuses the same three motifs. I skipped the DLC though so idk about that.)
  • A lot of games on the console are ports, of course, so they don't count as Switch OSTs.
  • I should also add that there are franchises that I don't play that I'm sure have excellent soundtracks, like Splatoon or Xenoblade.

So there are definitely some good OSTs out there, but for a console that's been running as Nintendo's sole flagship system for eight years, there's nowhere near as many good OSTs as I believe there should be. For every Odyssey, Forgotten Land, and Smash Ultimate, you have Crafted World, Star Allies, Metroid Dread, Echoes of Wisdom, etc.

Switch 2 is looking up so far though, with bangers like MK World, Bananza, and Air Riders.

@squiddu-real
Google "Praise Helix", although I'm not sure how much that will help if you aren't a Pokémon fan lol

@Robot99 putting Star Allies and Echoes of Wisdom OST's on the same level as Crafted World is an insane take, those soundtracks are great
