@Eel we don't know if it's illegal or not, hence the legal grey area and the amount of plausible deniability websites have. But I'm here to question the ethics of it, not the legality.

Any affiliate links in articles are clearly marked as such. In the case of random Japanese Nintendo-themed products, nearly all of our articles featuring those exist simply because we think they look neat and we believe readers on the site would think so too. When it comes to soundtracks, hardware, and the like, we'll often include a Play-Asia link or similar that is clearly labelled. However, we're not getting anything from the Kirby Cafes or Nintendo Gachapon vendors or Gelato Pique products unless explicitly stated in those articles.

I hope that clears things up.

Edit. Also, those Timmy and Tommy slippers are dope and worth highlighting twice by mistake.

@dartmonkey Thank you for the response! Was just put off by, for example, the same Tom Nook Slipper article being posted twice with the second time making it seem novel (ie "Random"). Sites around the net like hiding the fact their posts are actual ads so please excuse the sensitivity to it.

Thanks again.

@Eel To add to what Gav said — I just like writing about cute Nintendo merch! Neither I, nor the site are getting paid to write about this stuff.

I think that part of the issue here is that I only tend to write about merch that I like the look of, so it does perhaps look like I'm trying to convince people to buy it, which isn't the case. There's plenty of duff stuff that I don't bother with.

Specifically, I cover a lot of Japanese merch because it's of a higher quality than a lot of the Nintendo merch in Europe and North America, and I include a couple of Japanese merch sites in my regular sources when I'm looking for light-hearted news stories

@BadWaluigi to be fair, that one's on me. I was still relatively new to the site and didn't realise it had been covered a couple of months earlier 😅 nothing sinister, just a stupid moment!
