I got the impression Flames of Fate "dark" would've been the FFXVI style rather than Xenoblade style.
That's what I was worried about and I'm glad they've changed course. While I doubt Flames of Fate would ever have been quite as dark as FFXVI, I really don't like what I've seen of that game. You can have mature themes, as Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy have always done, without needing a gritty/violent/depressing tone.

Not to be pessimistic but I think we'll be lucky if it comes out before 2030.
Given Square Enix, and this series' track record... we're going to be waiting a while.
@FishyS Depends. Unless they rush through it and deliver a subpar game which I don't think they will, I am thinking probably around 2030. I mean they announced Flames of Fate 5 years ago and had nothing. We didnt see an early build, concept art or anything. However they did show off some visuals and such of this new one but you can tell they still need alot of work. So yeah I am going to say no earlier then 2030.

@Tasuki Considering they gave us a teaser with a brief glimpse in the world and the devs said that development was (allegedly) going well. It's safe to assume that the restarted development went at least for a year.

Trying to remember what the process was with XI, i remember the first time we saw it they showed a couple of short clips showing them walking around the area outside of the first town and an early look at downtown heliodor (dont think there were npcs or anything but could be wrong) then there was not much news for a while and then a couple years later the floodgates opened leading to release.
With this it feels a bit more like what happened with III HD2D, since iirc they showed a short reveal trailer, then nothing for a good while, then a trailer in a nintendo direct where the game looked a lot different (the reveal one looked closer to the traditional "HD2D" look with it mimicing old school tilesets wheres the final game reminded me more of the star ocean 2 remake) which does make me wonder if 3 HD2D had restarted at some point (forgot if it was mentioned)
This is just me guessing based on things which happened before but it does feel like we may get something like DQXI where theres not much info for 1 or 2 years then a lot.
@Mgalens No I think you have a very good point. We were also left on read when it came to DQ3 for a bit as well.
It'll probably be another year or 2 til we see anymore news about this game.
