Topic: External Storage Devices With Wii U

I was thinking about buying an external storage device for my Wii U. I checked out the list of the ones that are confirmed to work properly. I'll propably get 1 TB Seagate Backup Plus Desktop Drive. Does anyone know if I need any extra caples to power up that thing? I've been reading online about people's experiences with external storage devices where they needed a y-cable or something to make it work.

It would be great if David Wise made soundtracks to all future Nintendo games.

If the HD does not have a power source, then you will need the Y cable.

I ordered a WD My Book, it should arrive in a few days, and that needs the Y cable as it does not have its own power source.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

I have a 500 GB Buffalo in my other game console and I'd buy another one for Wii U if I was sure that it'd work. Nintendo hasn't really updated it's list of working models and I haven't seen too much discussion about this topic either. That 1 TB model was mentioned because I found one for about the same price as that 500GB Buffalo I already have.

My 500gb Buffalo MiniStation works great with my Wii U,

Good news, maybe I'll buy another now.

I bought this one recently and it doesn't need any additional cables. Works like a charm.

It's its, not it's.

Is there any that use an external power brick but don't have to be switched on and off manually ? (Or have any lights when the Wii U is not on).

Seems a big gamble just getting any old thing especially with stuff like eco features.
