Dragon Quest VII Reimagined

I saved another village and met a very altruistic priest. What a great person! I found five mini medals, all at once, nice!

Well since its Fourth of July weekend I started up Jaws Retro Edition on Switch tonight and what a pleasant surprise this game was. Now the last time I played the original NES game I was a young lad in fact it was the second game I ever played. Over the years this game had a reputation about being a bad movie based game in fact it was originally made by LJN so yeah. It also is one of those what am I suppose to do games. Where the instruction booklet doesnt explain really well. Now over the years obviously people figured out how this game goes and even explained it on YouTube (AVGN has a great video on it) which I will get into in a minute. So after finally seeing how this game is played its always been one I want to go back to however, I never owned it nor do I have a way to play it untill now.

So bawically this game you have a ship and go between two ports running into random encounters like an RPG. When you hit an encounter you are put into a side shooting stage like Gradius for example but its just one screen. You swim around shooting harpoons killing sting rays, jellyfish, tiger sharks etc. and as you shoot them they drop seashells that you can use at the Ports to upgrade your weapon to do more damage, your HP and you speed. Occasionally Jaws will come into the screen and you just have to avoid him untill you gain enough power and energy by collecting the shells to buy the upgrades in the ports. Then once you are done you can face off Jaws and kill him.

Now the retro edition has two modes the original NES version and an enhanced version. The enhanced version basically just adds dialogue to explain what you have to do and instead of and endless loop game it makes breaks the game up into 4 chapters each with nods to each movie. So pretty much a better experience.

So I ended up completing the first chapter tonight and had alot of fun with it and yeah once you figure out what your doing its a pretty fun game. Definitely recommend especially if you like retro shoot em up type games. I am very pleased with this game.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined

I brought the wind back and restored a holy lighthouse fire. Afterwards, I won the gold cup in the arena.
