Topic: The Hyperdimension Neptunia Thread

Hyperdimension Neptunia fan right here. I watched the anime for the series a few months ago on Crunchyroll, and found most of the OVAs on YouTube. As an otaku, I absolutely love this series, and I noticed that there wasn't a thread for this series except a few old ones that were mostly locked off, so I thought, "Why don't I just make a thread for everything involving this series?", then I did that.

Feel free to talk about anything involving the Neptunia franchise, including but not limited to: the mainline games, the spin-off games, the anime, favorite characters, the music, and announcements and news involving the franchise.

I'll start: I was really disappointed when Nintendo of America canceled the English release of Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth Collection (one of the things that is keeping me undecided about Switch 2). Thankfully, Playasia is selling $40 physical copies of each of the three games included in the collection (or $60 collector's editions). I intend on getting the first one around Christmas time, then getting the other two in 2026, assuming I like the first one. On a side note, the developer Compile Heart announced that the next mainline Neptunia game will be announced before the end of this year, and they just recently started the franchise's 15th anniversary celebration recently, since the first game came out on August 19, 2010. Does anyone have any thoughts and theories about the next mainline game? I'll share mine later.

Personally I would stay away from Play Asia, nothing but a bunch of crooks and con artists. They take your money refuse to send you your product then basically tell you your ***** out of luck and refuse to give you your money back. Never ever dealt with such a scummy company before.

Save yourself the agony and dont do business with them. I wish some warned me about them.

A while back, I had an idea for the next mainline Neptunia game. The new bad guy should be Blanc (Nintendo) from an alternate future where Lowee (Wii) eventually becomes a new country that is a parody of the Nintendo Switch, and this alternate Blanc kills all the other goddesses and younger sisters, and wants to do the same in alternate timelines as well. The alternate Blanc's weapons are two short swords, a red one and a blue one (Obvious Joy-Con parody).

Hello everyone, I just want to say that I am so HYPED right now. The first trailer for the next mainline Neptunia game is premiering on YouTube next week. And the image released to celebrate shows what looks like old characters as well as NEW CHARACTERS too. So, so, so hyped!

Really hope it gets a Switch 1 / Switch 2 release, but I doubt it will come out on those systems in America at the moment for... reasons.

The new mainline Neptunia game is called Neptunia Unlimited (at least the Japanese name) and will release in Japan on August 27, 2026! And, at least in Japan, it is releasing on both the Switch 1 and the Switch 2, let's freaking gooooooo! Nintendo of America probably not letting it on the American platform though. @Neph, considering what has been happening lately with Visa and Mastercard pushing for sensitization of certain kinds of media lately, as well as the Re;Birth trilogy getting their American Switch releases canceled back in 2024, I've had a very negative outlook on things like this these games releasing on Switch lately, even though I usually prefer to hope for the best. I agree that the new outfits look snazzy though 👍.

@Nep-Nep-Freak Re;Birth from what I recall didn't get a western release because of that one scene including Rom & Ram getting kidnapped by that dinosaur(?) guy in the second game, so that decision was on NoA.
I'm almost certain that Visa & Mastercard don't have any kind of power/connection to threaten either Nintendo or Sony - This is a Steam-only thing.

Okay, so it's only 15 more days until Neptunia Unlimited releases in Japan, for Switch 1, Switch 2, PS4 (digital only 😭), and PS5. Also, from what I can tell based on the look of the box art, the Switch 2 physical release isn't a Game Key Card ☺️🎉.

Now for the big question... assuming that the English translation comes out roughly a year later like usual, will it get an American Nintendo release. I kind of actually have hope that it will, especially with the gameplay footage and images that they have shown, the original Japanese this time around is way tamer than the earlier Neptunia games in terms of fanservice (heck, there hasn't even been a brand new Neptunia game with a hot spring scene since 2021). But then again... the Riders VS Dogoos DLC swimsuits weren't allowed on the American Switch for some reason (despite them being tamer than the average anime style game swimsuits 🤔), so... I'm keeping my plans open just in case. I really do hope that since this release is overall tamer from the get-go, Nintendo of America will accept it, and that the entire content of the game from the original Japanese would not need to be censored for an American Nintendo release. If not, that leaves me with PS4, PS5, and the practically inevitable Steam release that will follow a bit later.

Unfortunately, I do not yet have a PC, which leaves me with PS4 and PS5 in the timeline where NOA somehow doesn't allow the game. And I refuse to purchase any more digital games on the PS Store after the July 1st announcement (screw Sony!).

Wait. Hold up. Let me cook. For the past two-ish years, all games published by Idea Factory (the Japanese publisher of Neptunia) have been digital only on PS4 but the worldwide publisher Idea Factory International has still been doing physical PS4 releases.

Considering the track record, a PS4 physical release elsewhere is honestly still possible. Assuming that the English translation takes a whole year to come out, which would mean that it comes out in August 2027, this new Neptunia game's English translation would be one of the last physical PlayStation games ever made. Again... screw Sony.

When the game does come out, I will probably pre-order the Limited Edition for whatever console it is on. And just like the Japanese release of the Limited Edition, it will most likely come with a code for the Season Pass DLC for that platform (that's what happened with the Japanese and worldwide Riders VS Dogoos Limited Editions, after all). But if I did end up having to get a PS4 one, and it came with a code for the Season Pass, I probably wouldn't use it because I didn't bother reconnecting my Playstation Network account to my console after an outage earlier on in the year and still haven't (putting it into storage kind of helped that), but after Sony's announcement, I definitely never will, which means I just wouldn't bother with the DLC at all if I really had to go that route. Or maybe the Limited Edition goodies won't appeal to me with this one. There's already one other Neptunia game Limited Edition that I don't intend on getting because I'm not interested in the bonus goodies that it includes, so... I won't dismiss the possibility. In that potential scenario, I'd just buy a physical copy by itself, and probably end up skipping the DLC... I don't know. Just throwing stuff out there since we don't have official details yet.

I'm keeping my options open and hoping for the best outcome 🙏. This is the game release that I have been most excited for this year, even though it's not coming out where I live yet. And the English translation that's most likely coming out in 2027 and Pokémon Winds and Waves are tied for next year's releases I'm most excited for.

Here's hoping the issues with Megadimension Neptunia VII get fixed soon as well, but just this in and of itself is great.

I didn't realize there had been issues with two different Neptunia games. But fixing one of them clearly means they're working with the devs so presumably the other will get fixed soon.
