@MarioVillager92 Yeah but my issue is finding a good one matching the characters I’m drawing, but also matching up the limbs and proportions. The characters I’m drawing are really stubby and short, and when I try copying the reference, it looks weird because the references have longer limbs and bodies, but that’s because the characters I’m drawing aren’t human and so have different anatomy. Though, I did get a pose on paper last night and I’m gonna draw a bit more on it.
I also do prefer drawing over using paint, it really isn’t for me but I have a huge respect for people who mastered it. However, acrylic paint markers are great and more suitable for me! When I draw I prefer to use pens or colored pencils, since the layering is really easy to get control of on top of the fact they aren’t messy. It’s been a while since I used pens though, I want to go back to doing it soon.
Yeah and right now I really prefer not to play team based games or games online because I don’t have the time to. It’s kind of risky for me especially since the connection can get messed up! But I’m very surprised at how OW’s servers got so much worse when I went back to playing it. Avoiding chargers and snipers in Mahi-Mahi is so hard from how much water there is. You have two things to avoid simultaneously! But, I did like playing Mahi-Mahi on Ranked/Anarchy, because depending on the mode, they did place some objects covering the water so you could move around more freely, but also if the mode pertained to covering area, like Splat Zones.
They were really fun. The kinds of levels people made in Mario Maker were impressive! Sad all of them from the first game are gone now. Yeah I did try some of the Spectrum games out of curiosity and to also get some achievements and stamps. They do seem impressive for the time they were released in, but not really impressive now and aged poorly. It was interesting to hear about the Spectrum, especially since I’d never heard of it for a while.
It definitely seems like a ton of work just gets thrown in the trash and was all for nothing. Imagine working on a new game for a decade only to have it get trashed despite development going better, but again, I think the writing on the wall was unfortunately there by how long it took for them to make it, but Microsoft is terrible for choosing to cancel all those games. I remember reading a bit about Sonic Xtreme, and how much its cancellation affected the Saturn. Well, while I do like the Xbox, I think interest in Xbox has been low for a bit, and it’s mostly blamed on the disastrous Xbox One event from E3 years ago, but also on the fact that Microsoft has plenty of studios but apparently lacks interesting exclusives besides a few series like Halo, bad business decisions, and underutilizing studios and closing them, and I do agree that they badly manage studios and don’t use them well as someone who enjoys the Xbox. Hardware sales were reported as being stagnant, and for Game Pass, it actually has been profitable and generated $5 billion in revenue, though the constant price hikes and the changes to the sub I’ve seen made some people uninterested (including me) but it has millions of subscribers, and I am glad people get value out of it.
I don’t quite know the reason behind Microsoft closing Tango at first but it was super bizarre to hear about it after the buzz Hi-Fi Rush generated for Xbox and everyone clamoring for a sequel. It’s good they were saved by another company though!
That’s good! I already knew before it came out that it was going to get good reception and that everyone was gonna like it
Yes, I’ll remember that, thank you! I do feel down sometimes and beat myself up about mistakes I make, but I’m going to try to do better.
Yeah, especially with small screens. I kind of am thinking about it now, but some of the games I have seem better suited for tablets than phones, especially rhythm games. Can’t tell you how hard it is trying to keep up with the gameplay and tapping constantly on a small screen.
I also heard a lot about the verification thing in the UK, and how they pretty much applied it to almost everything. I don’t know if it applies to the US because I never heard of an internet act/policy being signed, but I think YouTube introducing their own verification in the US is a sign a bunch of other apps will follow suit at some point.
Oh, sorry. That sucks…
Being worried all the time is such a terrible feeling. I have been feeling less like that lately but I do have that feeling on occasions.
I see! Good luck when you do, and it’s cool you started Banjo again. Really awesome, memorable, and charming, and absolutely one of my favorite games of all time! Tooie is super difficult in comparison though.
I hear a lot of people here have backlogs or games they want to finish, and I sorta do too on the Xbox. Mainly just a few other games included in Rare Replay, especially Nuts & Bolts, but I’m gonna need to restart it because I can’t even remember where I left off, but also because I am not a big fan of the sandbox elements and stink at making vehicles. Then I have a shoot em’ up I purchased from a sale called The Crackpet Show: Happy Tree Friends Edition, where I managed to complete one level, and by the time I wanted to continue playing it, my Xbox’s HDMI cord broke, so I haven’t played it since April, but I especially want to complete that one. It’s very challenging but satisfying completing levels after struggling a lot. There are also a handful of upcoming games I am interested in playing, but only if they get good reception.
@Sunsy Yeah... I really dislike that. Just because we happen to see a video that is marked "for kids," and then it wrongfully assumes you're a child and restricts your YouTube account... that is ridiculous. I should not have to worry about that either, and I'm so sorry to hear you're feeling that way. Plus, I want to be in control of what content I decide to consume. YouTube's AI can't make me. I hope the guys at Google reverse this terrible decision... and yes, I hope people still teach online safety, also.
A lot of people like cartoons in general, as well. I still like classic Disney movies, my brother still likes stuff like Spongebob, then of course there's you who likes Trolls... just to name a few examples. I don't like being negative at all, but this whole YouTube AI thing just has me steaming mad, and I already don't like stuff like generative AI art.
Trolls Scrapbook Stories does sound like a fun and cute watch... it does fit Poppy's character for sure. Ah, OK, I am familiar with Mario + Rabbids, I just happened to have Advance Wars on my mind to compare it to. That's cool you've got a small shopping area nearby. The park I mentioned isn't walking distance from my home, unfortunately, but it is a nice walking park for sure. The merry-go-round is the only ride they have. Would love to visit there more often. There's a bowling alley that's fairly close by as well, my dad and I would go bowling over there. I'm not great at it, but I still have fun.
I think I heard that too, that sounds good actually. That would mean it's more compatible, Nintendo could've made it so that it only works for Switch 2 and nothing else, but they actually went the extra mile right there. Though of course, you'd get the most bang for your buck if you know for sure you're getting a Switch 2 in the future and end up getting one.
I have most of my GameCube games from my childhood. Ouch, sorry to hear you lost your Super Mario Sunshine copy. It is nice they've had it on 3D All-Stars, and in widescreen as well... though as we all know, 3D All-Stars didn't last forever in stores, but it will come out on NSO's GameCube app at least.
Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly how many players were there, but there was still a lot of them going by the minimap upon seeing my clip. So it was still nice, plus the race took place in Peach Stadium. Peach's "be still, my beating heart" reaction is just perfect, too.
@PeterTomlan86 Hello, and thanks. Any games you like playing to start? I did mention that I do like Mario and Animal Crossing, but I do like other Nintendo series as well (Zelda, Splatoon, and Kirby to name a few examples). I like playing Mario Kart online, too. Hope you're doing well.

@CaleBoi25, had to look up what "Spidersona" meant, I won't bother with it since I suck at art, but I'm interested in seeing yours when it's complete!

@MarioVillager92 The best way to describe my answer to you is that for me, I have been playing game after game that I have never played before: There hasn’t been a game lately I have gone back to to replay.
Last year there were two games in a particular Nintendo series I really wanted to become available to play on NSO, and eventually I would get confirmation that one of them would release on the service. Fast forward, we would not only get a trailer giving a release date for that game, but also the other game I was looking to finally play. That series I’m mentioning is Golden Sun! Yes sir, I played Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age and thought they were games that while containing what you treasure in RPGs, takes you through adventures and experiences you have never seen before in the genre.
I would go on to get the third and last game ever made in the series. That game being Golden Sun: Dark Dawn. This game could have been a little less easier - the only one of few flaws I had with it. Despite that though, the game contains what’s to love in the previous entries, and a new cast of characters in a new era that shows their dedication and care for protecting and preserving nature, AKA. the world, like their parents before them.
Next game I would play eventually after that would be Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time. Though in this game I would also eventually find out there was a mistake or partly mistake of characters referring to you with they/them and some he/him pronouns despite what gender you pick at the beginning of the game. Yes, kind of a flaw I see for me personally, and even contacted Level 5 support on the problem and recommend everyone else does the same who wants to be accurately referred to (the title uses pronouns in regards to you a few times so far, from what 40 something hours I’ve played through). They’re good developers from what I hear, so I think there’s a very good chance they’ll set things right.
Anyway, Fantasy Life i itself so far is an amazing game! It is just how Nintendo Life describes it in their review: Larger than (Fantasy) Life. There are so many different things you can do in this game than just simply adventuring and battling enemies. Basically you can do anything you could dream of doing if you were in a real world of fantasy: However way you want to experience life that’s more extraordinary and a little more fantastic, you name it! - from enjoying the exploration of an open world and its challenges using your favorite class to building a whole new town with your ideas and overall visonary.
I also love Super Mario. I’ve played all of the 3D Mario games and almost all of the 2D games in the series. It is an amazing series with so much creativity, joy and innovation put into it. Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario Odyssey, you name it. All of that alongside the music that accompanies the fun or joyous moments in the franchise, and it’s a series to me that has brought me so much happiness and/or thrills at times: A series that makes me thankful for all that it has provided me, and I’m glad it’s still around and releasing new games that follow what appreciate of the series. Yes, it’s true I haven’t played a Mario game in a while, but I would be really excited about a new 3D entry on Switch 2 if there’s ever good news released about it (and not something that’s a mere quick tease with little info given to us).
And then there’s also Pokemon, another franchise I adore, and is one of my favorite video game franchises of all time alongside Mario. You also have Mario Kart, which I haven’t played enough games of said series to be called a fan, but Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, however, is one of my favorite games of all time! I would talk more about Pokemon and MK8, but I don't want to make my post too long here, haha.
Anyway, to sum up the answer to your question, you could say lately I’m all about always wanting to go on new adventures after new adventures. Ah, huh.

The Tomlan in my name stands for traveler of many lands. It's used to partly describe who I am as a person.
There will be Moon Eclipse and Bloody Moon tonight in my country Indonesia and other countries like Asia and Australia.
Here is the map of Moon Eclipse area tonight.
Just so you guys know, I changed my username... I went by MarioVillager92, and now I go by D-Star92! In games like Animal Crossing where you'd pick your name, I tend to go by D-Star (previously, I'd go by D-Pad). My ACNH friends would even call me D for short! I'm letting @Sunsy and @Tyranexx know about this, too. I'm still the same person of course, lol.
@Pastellioli Ah OK, gotcha. Maybe try drawing the references the same as how the characters you're drawing would look? What characters are you thinking of drawing, if you don't mind me asking? I might be able to help from there.
As somebody who has visited an art museum, I have a huge amount of respect for people who have mastered painting, too. I've seen some truly wonderful pieces there, and I do enjoy learning art history as well. I always use drawing pencils. Do they make pens for drawing? Because I do know that pens are permanent and you wouldn't be able to erase mistakes.
I think I know what you're saying about online games. I basically just stick with Mario Kart and Splatoon because I know those games really well. Those two, as well as Mario Party, are my go-to multiplayer games. I don't really have the time for stuff like Fortnite, Rocket League, and Call of Duty anyway... I feel like most of the games I play are single-player. Ah yeah, I do like Splat Zones quite a bit in Splatoon. I remember being pretty decent at it, though I can have a bit of trouble if there's two zones.
Yeah... that is a real shame for sure. It's a mostly online game because of how everybody would upload their own levels, so that was a huge loss right there. Same with Splatoon 1... all you can do now in that game is play the story mode, and that 2-player balloon mode. That's cool. I'm not huge into achievements personally, though I did do a good chunk of them to get a 5-star rank in Super Mario Party Jamboree.
Definitely, it stings big time to have a game cancelled. Yeah, the Saturn never had a mainline Sonic game, surprisingly enough... I think Sega might have been better off having at least an original 2D Sonic game to start off with, since the Saturn was really good with 2D graphics. I remember that Xbox One reveal, how it would force people to have an always-online connection and stuff like that. I think they toned that online thing down a bit? Gotcha, yeah I feel like in terms of consoles, Nintendo and PlayStation are quite a bit more popular now. I'd imagine Game Pass is the Xbox's biggest selling point for most people.
I just rolled credits in Donkey Kong Bananza, and I had a good time with it overall. I'd definitely recommend it for if/when you get a Switch 2.
No problem, and that's awesome. We all make mistakes, after all. Remember that we're all on our own journeys as well.
@PeterTomlan86 That's cool, I also haven't been replaying games too much recently, with Super Mario 3D World being an exception - been playing that during my last plane trip. I've not played much of Golden Sun since I'm not super huge into RPGs, but from what I've played, it is pretty dang good. I tried it out on NSO. I've heard Fantasy Life i is a good one for sure. I do have the first game on the 3DS, I should play more of that before I get the new one. I do love the concept of having multiple lives to have in the game and being able to change them anytime.
Yeah definitely, I love the mainline Super Mario series as a whole. Agreed on all that, and I'm looking forward to seeing what the folks at Nintendo do with the Switch 2's 3D Mario game as well. Perhaps we'll get a look at it on the next Nintendo Direct? Admittedly, I'm not huge into Pokemon, but my brother is. I've been into Mario Kart since the Nintendo 64 days, and I played the heck out of 8 Deluxe... it's been my second most-played Switch game, with the first being Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

@D-Star92, I like your new name! And that "AKA MarioVillager92" thing as well, so I don't forget who you are. As I have said before in this thread, when my books start being published, I will change my name. I'll probably do an "AKA ShieldHero" when that time arrives 😃.

@ShieldHero Thanks! I wanted to have a username that's more in line with what I go by in Animal Crossing, and it's more personal to me as well. I've built a tendency to use different Mario characters, not just Mario, as my profile picture too, as well as my Animal Crossing character, depending on my mood, so I feel they fit my new username more in a way. I'll still keep my Peach one for now to make it easy to remember it's me. And yes, I did think of putting that AKA bit on my signature as well. Best of luck on publishing your books by the way! I'd imagine they would be inspired by anime?
@CaleBoi25 Whoops sorry... lol! No worries. I put that AKA bit in my signature and I'll still have Peach as my profile picture.

As for anime I've watched, I've seen stuff like My Hero Academia, One Piece, Naruto, and Black Clover. I've seen Akira as well, which is an anime movie. It's a good movie for sure, just be aware that it is on the more mature side. Also a more obscure pick, I did like Crest of the Stars as well.

@D-Star92 How much of Fantasy Life on the 3DS did you play?
I recall myself not wanting the game 3DS because my brother played it and thought the storyline wasn't good. I also recall him saying the English dialogue was wacky! (think of the season 1 English dub of Digimon.) Though I've come to realize that I shouldn't rely on people's opinions about something like that. Stories are subjective and I've liked stories that other people did not. Did you like the narrative of Fantasy Life on 3DS?
Have you thought about playing any of the Pokemon games beyond Brilliant Diamond and Shinning Pearl? They have doing new things to the franchise lately while retaining to its roots, like SV, Arceus and Z-A.
I love your saying in your sig: "Give yourself the gift of being joyfully you." It's beautiful.

@PeterTomlan86
Speaking about Fantasy Life games, I have played both 3DS and PS5 version.
They have completely different narrative and environment.
Fantasy Life on 3DS was at European medieval style world while Fantasy Life I get really strong influence from Mayan civilization and Time Travel. Fantasy Life I felt like botw style after get added with Ginormosia, the open world style with separated area that under supervised by giant eye tower and the shrines that really looks like in botw, even I don't have interest with botw.
The thing I like the most from Fantasy Life I is the terraforming that looks similar as ACNH but better. Since I also have experience from playing The Sims games, I don't have much difficulty to design my own village in Fantasy Life I and the island in ACNH.
