So, Games Brittania was pretty fun, all told. Huge focus on the retro side - lots of Mega Drive, Master System, Atari, Sinclair, Commodore 64 (they had Wizball. Whoot!), PlayStation, Dreamcast, N64... lots of fun digging through some old classics. A Mario Kart 64 tourney too, but I missed getting a place in it. Popular touney, haha.
FIVE THINGS LEARNED:
1) If you're on the fence about the 3DS XL, then get one. The screens are amazing - I played Kid Icarus. Was expecting it to look either blurry or pixelly, and it didn't. It looked big and sharp, just as good as on the standard 3DS. Maybe even a little better. So if the XL is a maybe, go for it.
2) Damn you Nintendo. NSMB2 (that's the 3DS one, for sake of clarity) is pretty uninventive and plays like an expansion pack to NSMBWii with a couple of new power-ups. That doesn't stop it still being a heck of a lot of fun though. The gold power-ups are actually pretty sweet too - they're on a time limit, so you grab them and start barrelling through the level as fast as possible to bag as many coins as you can, and the Gold Fire Flower brings a similar sort of destructive "TASTE MY WRATH!" mayhem as the Mega 'Shroom did before it. And actually, the lack of invincibility from both items sets a different kind of mad dash from the Star - gotta be that bit more careful. I have to say, I went in with doubts and came out having enjoyed it. Begrudgingly.
3) Beat the Beat Rhythm Paradise is insane amounts of fun. And even more fun with a friend / hostage Nintendo representative. And near-infinite fun blaring out of stage speakers, being displayed on two enormous screens. But the latter you're unlikely to get in your own home. STILL. Get this game. If you liked the DS game, you'll adore this. If you didn't like the DS game, what is wrong with you.
4) Ni No Kuni on PS3. I need a PS3 and that game right now more than I need air, food and shelter. If anyone wants to exchange a PS3 for a home in Yorkshire, please do let me know.
5) Melee and Mario Kart 64 will never stop being fun. Never.
