I legitimately had not watched or read anything about this prequel until now, so I had no idea it wasn't also a turn based RPG. That said, this review didn't really read that badly to me. It sounds pretty good aside from repetitive side quests and a slow start, but that isn't exactly a rarity. For $15 it still sounds like a cool little game.
Most of the reviews I've seen of this one are pretty negative, specifically due to the story. I feel like I'll still grab it on sale because I'm a sucker for JRPGs in general, but it's a bit of a shame the story is rough.
Just to echo what others have said, I feel like $30 is a bit steep for the game and might hurt its sales ultimately. I played it on PC and had a good time, but it feels like a $20 price tag would work better - especially with pokemon so close. I recommend the game for sure, though. It's a lot of fun.
I do agree that the review reads like the score would be higher than a 5, given the games are still fun. Are the graphics really that terrible? Not that it matters, it's just an interesting take.
