The Switch has some rather good free-to-play options, and June will add more to the ranks. On 1st June, as a reminder, Knockout City will be going free-to-play; developer Velan Studios (also well known for Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit) will also be parting ways with EA and taking on publishing duties.
The same date will also be the launch of season 6 for the game, and it certainly seems like a fresh opportunity for the multiplayer dodgeball extravaganza. We liked it a lot in our review, but there's also the inevitable reality that some of us will have fallen off it, or perhaps played the extensive free trial but then not taken the jump with a purchase. No doubt Velan Studios has looked to the free-to-play successes of games like Rocket League, and of course we also have Fall Guys going free when it arrives on Switch and Xbox on 21st June.
In any case, the video at the top of the page is well worth a watch, and this scribe is certainly tempted to give Knockout City another try in June. Season 6 will be called 'City of Tomorrow' and has also been outlined previously, so take a look if you want the full details. Most importantly, it will include a crossover with the murderous space party game Among Us.

After the hatred and vitriol people show for EA - Games like this are golden opportunities to put your money (or a lack thereof in this case) and not buy or play EA products.
Wait, this existed?
I really, really liked it for the 50 or so hours I spent on it. But I was busy with life errand assignments so I had to stop playing and never returned.
@NotArmani Similar thought. Except I was more like oh yeah! This existed!
I thought they just went for a free-to-play option? eShop currently has it alongside the standard $20 one. Would be a bummer if they actually delisted the latter like Rocket League did. Games like Galak-Z and Super Bomberman R/Online seem to exist in two versions fine.
I remember seeing this in a direct but never played it as it didn’t look my style that much. I legitimately thought it was free to play this whole time too.
You guys are in for a treat. Knockout City is one of the best multiplayer games on the Switch. It’s really sad how certain YouTubers sh**ted on this game. An absolute must play as part of your online gaming lineup.
I had a lot of fun with it during the open beta and the free trial but haven't gotten it yet. Will definitely hop back in on the first since it is so fun to play
Thought it was already a free game.
Hmm for some reason I thought it was free to play already. I’d like to try it but games like this are often stacked against new comers.
I thought it was pretty decent when it first came out with the free trial thing so I'll give it another shot.
Next on the going full f2p list...Chocobo GP or Nickelodeon Smash clone perhaps?
@Sonos Uhh ya buckaroo, you do you and boycott if it makes you feel powerful, but I'll happily play for FREE. Entertainment for me, no money for EA. Seems win/win to me.
@Ryu_Niiyama It wasn't free initially exactly..you could play until account level 20 for free, then you had to buy.
@nhSnork In the case of Super Bomberman R, they aren't exactly the same game. One is your traditional Bomberman, the other is a battle royale.
May give this one a try once it goes F2P and EA has no business on it.
@SteamEngenius @Sonos Seems like neither of you noticed that the developer is taking over publishing duties from EA 😀👍
It's crazy to think that this game is over a year old now. I need to start playing this game again, lol.
