Don-chan will be getting another release on the Nintendo Switch in Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival. It'll arrive at some point this year. There are 76 songs included, plus a paid in-game subscription service - giving you access over 500 songs at launch. One of the tracks even includes an orchestral version of the main theme from The Legend of Zelda. Here's some PR:
"The latest Taiko no Tatsujin game is coming to Nintendo Switch! Drum to 76 boppin’ beats, including an orchestral version of the main theme from The Legend of Zelda, as well as “Gurenge,” “Feel Special” and “Racing into the Night.” Face off against each other in the new mode, Great Drum Toy War, or put on a live concert with friends in DON-chan Band. Plus, a paid in-game subscription service that gives you access to over 500 songs will be available at launch. Drum to your heart’s content when Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival launches on Nintendo Switch in 2022."

Wow, a new Taiko game, can't wai--
In-game subscription service
Never mind.
I'll need to know more about the subscription before I know what to think of this. 500+ songs is a huge number but it'll probably cost more than its worth with how infrequently I play Taiko.
"a paid in-game subscription service - giving you access over 500 songs at launch"
That was the same thing what Konami did for DDR A20+ and other BEMANI games for PC.
Paid in game subscription to enjoy Arcade version.
Gosh.... please, no. 🤦♂️
That's the rub. These games are so attractive, but let themselves down with the DLC practices.
Glad to see more Taiko, but I wish they would just make it an annual series with new songs (and maybe throw in a new mode or two) every year rather than resort to this very Just Dance-style subscription rubbish.
The amount of overpriced DLC for Drum 'n' Fun is also absolutely ridiculous. I would much, much rather that they just held on those songs and packaged in a later installment.
I have infrequently used my gold coins to purchase some of the DLC though, mainly those with added characters, and the tiny handful of songs that I recognise (such as Butterfly - being the Japanese Digimon Adventure theme - and Last Christmas, which seemed an oddity in a game so focused on Japanese pop).
Where's @Ryu_Niiyama at? This is her favorite franchise.
@Specter_of-the_OLED Wooo! Thank you for the heads up! I had to leave early so I didn't see the whole direct (Data usergroup meeting) but yeah! Heck yeah, kadon! Day one y’all! day one! My Tatacon is ready!
Honestly considering that I buy all the DLC, I am not mad about the sub. Means I can stop playing the DS and WIIU/Wii versions (if they dig into the back catalog). Seriously I have 3 tatacon setup in here for different systems.
I kinda hate bamco for doing this to me though. I want to be angry at them for no soul calibur on switch and then they trot out a new Tatsujin and I'm like "what...I ain't even mad...I love you bamco..." I swear I'm a cheap date.
I wanna play Taiko games but the drums are so expensive.
So I wait and hope they get cheaper some day.
Subscriptions are worse than DLC, Why couldn't they just give DLC so people can still play those songs when the inevitable have to get rid of the service in the future?
@fishbujin You can play button or motion (don't do it) controls. You don't have to own a tatacon.
Lost me at subscription, I would rather play it on the switch or Xbox game pass, with a multitude of songs, on top of DLC.
@Snatcher
Also, with subscription you must get connected with internet since the 500 songs are not inside the game.
@Ryu_Niiyama
Thanks for the tip but I remember playing Donkey Konga without the bongos not as fun as with so I expect it to be the same with Taiko.
Do you know if buttons can be binded in current Taiko games for the Switch? Then my bongos might work
@fishbujin I don't know about using bongos on the games but there are a few different button configs in game. I'm sure somebody has gotten it to work though...might be worth a visit to youtube. To each their own but I played the ds and 3ds games for years with buttons...you really don't need the tatacon.
I was all ready to buy this because I heard it was one of the best rhythm game franchises around, and it had me hook-line-and sinker with MEGALOVANIA and Zelda playing, but then I saw the dreaded subscription service. This is one of the worst trends in gaming and I will not support it.
@Ryu_Niiyama
Alright then next sale I'll see.
@JakedaArbok well you can have access to 76 songs total without it I think.
I’ve been playing so much Taiko since last year. It’ll take time for me to even consider getting that subscription, but the game itself looks really good, especially since it has a mode that lets you play song segments.
Does it play better than the other one without the peripheral though? I swear I've never seen one of those things in the wild.
As @anoyonmus stated you can still take the standard game with the 70 odd tracks which is what i will do. Im a casual player thats not very good so that will suit me without paying out for another sub. Its a fun game and now ive modden my drum and its super sensitive its great.
If Polyrhythm is on the subscription service I will buy day one. I won’t care about the price.
Day 1 for me. So glad I bought the drums when first released on switch.
@anoyonmus
It’s kind of the principle of the thing at that point. I wasn’t dying to get it, and that just makes me not want to buy it. I won’t fault anyone that does buy it though, I hope they have a good time with the game.
As long as the 70 odd songs are mainly new stuff Ill snap it up (most likley import)
It might not beat some of the recent track lists in quantity but it still beats the PS2 days with 30-40 songs.
Still hoping Konami one day will revive its CS Bemani series one day..........(Ill take anything beatmani, pop n music, gitadora just throw us a bone Konami)
@Kidfunkadelic83 yup indeed. But I will wait for more information ofc
That’s ok and all but where’s Rhythm Heaven?
@kobashi100 have you done the mod for them or do you use them as standard? Just curious.
@Kidfunkadelic83 standard although I do want to mod them.
@kobashi100 defenately worth doing. So much better now ive done it. I csn play it with my fingers instead of having to whack it with the battons and getting mis hits.
@ArchRex not a Bamco franchise.
@Ryu_Niiyama Yes of course I know that, I was thinking about RH because they’re both rhythm games, and it’s about time it comes on Switch.
