Nintendo has just registered trademarks for a few of its existing properties. The new trademarks are for Duck Hunt, Excitebots, Happy Home Paradise, Mario Strikers and Super Mario Land.
While it's natural to speculate if this means we'll be seeing new entries in these series, the renewal of trademarks is a pretty common (and boring) practice. In fact, back in 2020, Nintendo renewed 39 trademarks at the same time, covering everything from Freaky Forms to Radar Mission. Trademark renewal basically means that Nintendo can retain the rights to a name and not have another company apply for it.
As we said back in 2020, this is merely business as usual, but we're only human – so let us know if you'd like to see a new Duck Hunt, Mario Strikers or Excitebots entry by posting a comment below. Can't do any harm, right?

It could be something as minor as the inclusion of a licensed property as a spirit in Smash Bros, after all.
After all, we'll probably never see a new Sutte Hakkun game.
Reminder: if renewing trademarks always meant something was coming we'd have like 5 Eternal Darkness sequels right now.
reminder that super mario land is a banger of a game
Genuinely curious: When has a recent trademark renewal ever actually led to anything?
I would love to see the nes classic remix come back
Ah yes, the most thrilling Nintendo game of all: trademark renewal.
It's hard to get excited when there's the possibility of a second expansion pack, adding $30 to the already exorbitant fees.
I would want a FPS Duck hunt game.
@westman98 Not heard of an example myself! Trademark registering? Certainly! Lol.
Yes to all of these series (properly) returning.
@Mana_Knight There is a very tiny chance that they are working on remakes / "Switch Online" releases of these games (for instance we could se a GB Switch Online, not that that is happening Nintendolife, unlike what you said early september!). But this is even less than a rumor.
Duck Hunt: Even though you can't shoot the ducks on these blasted new televisions, you can still be the duck and fly around for that sweet sweet evasive victory.
@Gwynbleidd they could probably do it without the sensor bar these days. Doubt they will though unfortunately!
Hopefully duck hunt and Mario Land on switch? Nah probably not sadly.
Breaking news: Nintendo protects its IP for the first time since the last time they did it!
We really need a new "Excite" game. I was playing Excite Bike Vs. last night and it still holds up well.
Edit: as others have said, this means nothing. Still, it has me thinking about Excite bike/truck/bots, again.
Duck hunt! Yeah in my dreams. Can you guys imagine if they brought back that gun for duck hunt on NSO? That's pretty much the only thing that would make me subscribe to that sink hole, which is not happening.
Well, for those who don't have it, or the Super Scope, a Joy-Com will do, because not only is it light, but we can re-center the reticle with a button push.
Fighter Pass 3 Confirmed!!!!!!!
Hype levels maximum!
Nintendo: "Duck Hunt 99 coming to the Expansion Pack, we DARE you folks to wrinkle your noses now"
The renewal of the Super Mario Land trademark also means Nintendo had the rights to take down that awful but impressive fan made Super NES remake as well. If y'all had not play that yet I say check it out before the Ninty Ninjas get to it.
Trademark renewals are nothing new, especially with a company like Nintendo being very protective of their IP.
Now, if we get something like amiibo reprints, that would mean something. The last time we heard of major amiibo reprints, it turned out to be a hint for Age of Calamity.
Yep. Nothing out of the ordinary here. Just the usual trademark renewal. I don't think there is much of a chance of a few of these games getting a revival of sorts. I would love for all of Nintendo's IPs to get another shot though, at least the ones that make sense to remake.
I love mario strikers and that might be the most likely one from that? But excitebots would be fantastic to get another shake at
NICE TRADEMARK RENEWAL
Man, I miss Excitebots.
I miss Excite Truck / Bots.
The former living in the deep of my heart.
@Ironcore YES! Or even make a Super NES Remix.
@gamefan37
That wasn't the point.
The point is that retaining trademarks and licenses means they can be used for things as innocuous as putting a reference to an old Nintendo property in a new game, like the trophies in Melee or the stickers in Brawl.
Are we FINALLY going to get Excitebots to Europe?
Or how about an Excite collection while we're at it?
Six Golden Coins remake please.
"Don't do that, don't give me hope......"
Give me Excitebots in Europe dangnamit. I'll take the other games too while I'm at it.
I would totally buy a new Duck Hunt game. Bring it Nintendo
So recently,
Happy home designer came back as DLC for New Horizons.
Strikers came back with a solid game.
Which leaves us with Duck Hunt and ExciteBots.
I think we are getting something Duck Hunt related on switch but The only way I see ExciteBots coming back is if it’s with excitebike
